New Argentine VOD Platform Peliculas Nobles Launches (EXCLUSIVE)

Peliculas Nobles, a filmmaker-led VOD platform for Argentine films, is launching Nov. 16. Argentina’s Gema Juarez Allen of Gema Films and Diego Dubcovsky of BD Cine and Varsovia Cine have kicked off the new initiative in response to the dearth of platforms for homegrown titles. The idea first arose from observing that a great number of Argentine catalog films couldn’t find spaces or platforms, said Juarez Allen. Classics like the 2003 gem by Albertina Carri, “Los Rubios,” were left in limbo. “Many filmmakers whose films are not programmed or acquired by platforms — or whose contracts were discontinued — were forced to hire Vimeo on Demand individually or just open their links for free,” she explained. “We decided to start organizing this platform and offer a very generous deal that would allow them to receive the same amount per transaction as if they, for instance, hired Vimeo on Demand themselves,” she said. Given the scarcity of platforms for even more recent Argentine titles, Peliculas Nobles will eventually serve as a launchpad for them. With independent cinemas shuttering, some permanently, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and no government bailout in sight, the need for Peliculas Nobles has become even more acute, observed Juarez Allen. Diego Dubcovsky and Gema Juarez Allen Courtesy of Peliculas Nobles Peliculas Nobles’ main mission is to centralize the search for both classic and recent Argentine films, not unlike its counterpart in Colombia, mowies.com, that boasts the largest collection of Colombian films, but has expanded its service across the region and plans to set up operations in Europe. Peliculas Nobles will launch with some 70 features and shorts and from thereon, three or four titles will be added each month. These will include co-productions with Argentina, Juarez Allen pointed out. Among the works will be titles by renowned…

Palace are releasing a Whitney Houston themed capsule collection

A new capsule collection from skatewear brand Palace will celebrate the life of iconic pop queen Whitney Houston, on the eve of her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it has been announced today. Ah. Heaven. Bet you missed non-election news, eh?  Anyway! The drop, which launches in store (for all you lucky people not in national lockdown) and online (for all you unlucky people who are) this Friday 13 November, is a celebration of the star’s musical legacy, just eight years on from her untimely death.  The capsule is heavy in Americana, featuring a varsity jacket created by Ebbets, a crew neck T-shirt and cap bearing Whitney’s surname, and a printed T-shirt showing a photo of the musician herself wearing a classic white Palace vest. Each label of the red, off-white and black colourway collection features Whitney’s signature and her nickname -- ‘Nippy' -- appears as a badge on the jacket.   https://vimeo.com/477054747  Pat Houston, Whitney’s long-time manager and sister-in-law, praised the release for honouring a “special cause”. “No doubt she would have loved to have worn it herself,” she added. All the proceeds from the rare licensed collection will go to charity, specifically the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, a non-profit the star set up in 1989 to help sick and homeless children, work toward the prevention of child abuse, teach children to read, build inner city parks and playgrounds, and provide college scholarships. “Whitney Houston is one of the all-time greats,” said Palace in a statement today. “We are so stoked and so honoured to continue our charitable commitments this year with a line that celebrates such an incredible popstar and human being.” The Palace White Houston capsule collection is available to buy from Friday 13 November.

The Week in Drag – Bob the Drag Queen, Monét X Change and Peppermint get political, Trixie and …

Hello, hello, hello! It’s been quite a week, hasn’t it? Between the last remnants of Halloween and the truly scariest moments we’ve experienced this year, you deserve a break and the queens are here to deliver. In the latest edition of The Week in Drag, we’ve got some important political discussions that you need to hear as we try to foster a spirit of understanding and tolerance in these turbulent times. And, if you just want a laugh or some fierce fashions and content to bring a smile to your face, we’ve got that as well. Let’s bring it to the runway! We all assumed Election 2020 would be a multi-day event, but instead of the usual election night coverage, I opted to spend the evening with Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change as they delivered an entertaining live stream. As I mentioned, sometimes it’s important to give a platform to those you may not agree with, as understanding is often overlooked in today’s world. Bob took some time to listen to a black, gay Trump supporter and take part in some meaningful conversation on “Only Child.”Another prominent activist, Peppermint, used her platform to get to know what makes a pair of gay Trump supporters tick. Their conversation is definitely worth a listen, regardless of whose side you are on. Politics are always scary, but so is Halloween, and we have a few trick or treat leftovers for you. Last week, we were treated to a special on World of Wonder’s YouTube channel. On Bring Back My Ghouls, the radiant Jaida Essence Hall checks in with her fellow season 12 queens, who have some holiday-inspired tricks up their sleeves. Jan gave us a little ASMR, Gigi carved a pumpkin, looking like a Tippi Hedren Birds fantasy. Widow served us some spider realness…
