Governor Signs 60-Day Gas Tax Suspension as Completion Special Schools Bill Moves to his Desk

Though the House did not consider any K-12-related legislation on the floor today, the Senate voted on one House education bill. Mid-morning, in an attempt to soften the financial strain of rapidly rising gas prices, the Governor signed legislation suspending Georgia's gas tax for 60 days. Senate Floor Action House Floor Action Completion Special Schools Bill Moves to Kemp's Desk With a unanimous vote, the Senate passed HB 907 , by outgoing House Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton). The legislation requires local school systems located within the attendance zone of a completion special school to either enter into a collaborative operating agreement with the school or provide comparable programs and services for students in grades 9–12. These programs and services include dropout prevention, academic intervention, credit recovery, and flexible scheduling. Parents or guardians could directly register eligible students for participation in completion special school programs. The legislation mandates coordination between the completion special school and the resident school system when a student is not currently enrolled. HB 907 requires completion special schools to provide program information to resident school systems twice annually, and that school systems share this information with students and families. Additionally, school systems must provide contact

Day 34: Absenteeism Bill Considered by House Education Committee – PAGE Legislative

Several education bills moved through the legislative process on Day 34, both in committee and on the Senate floor. The Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026 was recommitted from the Senate Education and Youth Committee to the Senate Appropriations Committee, perhaps signaling that the proposed cost of its implementation will be closely scrutinized by budget writers. Senate Floor Action House Floor Action Dual Achievement Program and Pre-K Bills Achieve Final Passage With a vote of 53-0, the Senate passed HB 1293   by Rep. Jan Jones (R-Milton), who serves as the House Speaker Pro Tempore. The bill removes the pilot status of the Dual Achievement Program and makes changes to program entrance requirements. HB 1293 now moves to the governor's desk for his signature. The Senate also passed HB 1123 , also sponsored  by Rep. Jones, by a vote of 46-0. Enter Leyra—Accedo’s new TVaaS venture coming for Vimeo’s lunch – Rethink

Your browser is not supported. Please update it. The merger of OTT video technology builders Accedo One and Magine Pro has been confirmed under a new standalone company called Leyra—the Swedish word for ‘clay’. Accedo, the Swedish TV app developer, retains full ownership of the new venture, and by all accounts is very much leaving Leyra to its own devices, with a separate leadership team, P&L, and budget. Back in December, Faultline pre-emptively pegged the combined entity as possibly the most credible mid-market OTT platform vendor in Europe, roughly on par with Zattoo. Now that the two platforms have officially fused under a new moniker, the question is whether Leyra will prove as malleable yet resilient as clay, ready to be molded to broadcasters’ needs, or if it… A subscription is required to read this content. House Passes Anti-Discrimination Bill, Education & Workforce Measure Moves to Kemp’s Desk

Compared to the hectic pace of yesterday's committee workday, Legislative Day 33 saw comparatively few education bills advance. Multiple major education issues are expected to be considered in the coming days. Senate Floor Action House Floor Action House Passes Anti-Discrimination Bill With a vote of 165-0, the House passed SB 523  by Sen. Goodman (R-Cogdell), which originally required public schools and institutions of higher education to treat antisemitism as they would treat religious discrimination. The House committee substitute of the bill revises SB 523 to make it nearly identical to HB 1363 , by Rep. Deborah Silcox (R-Sandy Springs), which creates a statewide coordinator position within GaDOE to monitor and report on complaints of discrimination in public schools. If a school fails to take corrective action arising from a discrimination complaint, the SBOE is authorized to take action, including withholding state funds. The bill also requires the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia to establish policies and procedures for handling discrimination complaints. SB 523 now moves back to the Senate, which will consider the House changes to the legislation. Senate Approves Governor's Workforce Initiative With only
