(CNN)Police in Florida arrested a student attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for allegedly "plotting to shoot up the campus" on Thursday, which was the final day before winter break, officials said.John Hagins, 19, threatened an attack similar to the 1999 mass shooting at the Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, that left 13 dead, according to Chief Jakari Young of Daytona Beach Police Department. Hagins had a backpack that contained a collapsible rifle, a magazine and several boxes of ammunition when he was taken into custody, he said.Police said they got involved after two students reported worrying messages they saw on a group chat to the university's campus security team. It took about six minutes for a threat to kill students and teachers at Logan High School to spread over Snapchat. A Logan student allegedly created a fake Snapchat account and sent out the threat from the school’s cafeteria on the morning of Nov. 21, that eventually led to around 150 calls to the school and police from the community, according to La Crosse police. Two students were referred to Youth Justice for charges of making terroristic threats. Their names, ages or grades were not released by police. (CBS46) — A recent post on a Dunwoody Facebook forum got the community’s attention with details about kids as young as 12 buying edible drugs through Snapchat.Dunwoody police said they are aware.“These apps sometimes offer a little bit more anonymity to people. They’re able to create fake profiles," said Sgt. Robert Parsons of the Dunwoody Police Department. "Right now, our detectives are currently investigating it to try and find out what’s exactly going on.” The post mentioned a specific user and a pickup location at a gas station near Dunwoody Village.Parents in the area not surprised.“If you'd asked me maybe 15 years ago, 16 years ago, probably," said Catlin Irvin, a mother of three, "but now with the access they have on their phones to people, everything, everybody, nothing shocks me anymore.”Parents warned the edible drugs are being packaged to look like regular candy or snacks.Police say the apps can create a dangerous space.“Buying drugs in general is a very risky proposition, especially anonymously, through apps like this.
