In a press release, the agency said that its Office of General Counsel "carefully reviewed Facebook's petition to recuse Chair Lina M. Khan. As the case will be prosecuted before a federal judge, the appropriate constitutional due process protections will be provided to the company. The Office of the Secretary has dismissed the petition."The commission voted 3-2 to bring the complaint, meaning that Khan's participation was crucial to continue the case in federal court. A Traverse City woman is out $1,600 after falling victim to a scam. Police say it happened over the social media app, Snapchat. Plice say the woman befriended a man, who eventually offered to give her some money. But in order to do so, he said he needed her bank account username and password to log in to her account. That’s when instead of giving her cash, the man took money out of her account, sending it to various places. Police remind you not to share your bank account information with anyone.

It is a crime in the UK to say anything ‘grossly offensive’ on the internet. Under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 this offence carries up to six months in prison. As has been previously argued on spiked, the words ‘grossly offensive’ essentially give carte blanche to judges to criminalise anything they think is unpleasant or hurtful. In the past, people have been sentenced for posting a video on YouTube of a pug doing a Nazi salute and for an Instagram post referring to a rap lyric containing the n-word. More recently, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has turned the screw further and has started to use Section 127 to police private communications between friends. We got a taste of this a couple of weeks ago, when the High Court cleared the way for the prosecution of a man who had put a tasteless video about the Grenfell disaster on a private WhatsApp group. SOUTHINGTON -- A New Britain man has pleaded not guilty to accusations of misleading an 8th grader from Southington into sending inappropriate videos to him, using a ruse that led the minor to believe he was communicating with a girl. Tyler Pertillar, 22, faces charges of enticing a minor by computer and risk of injury to a child. According to judicial records, the 22-year-old was scheduled to appear Friday in New Britain Superior Court. During the hearing, judicial records said, he pleaded not guilty to all charges, though records also indicated Pertillar was sent a letter notifying him of his next hearing. This is usually done when a defendant misses a hearing, indicating that his attorney may have entered the pleas on his behalf. The arrest warrant in the case indicates the victim in the case met with police in June 2020 and told investigators he began having conversations with Pertillar about a year earlier after friends told him that Pertillar was a “cool guy.” The minor friended him on both Instagram and Snapchat, the warrant said. In March 2020, the warrant continued, Pertillar posted a message on Snapchat that said “Text me if you want me to buy you…

Snapchat has tried to woo a lot of creators into making content on their platform for a while now, and the creation of Spotlight was a big part of this. Meant to be a response to TikTok’s growing popularity, Spotlight was also a way for content creators to earn a ton of money with Snapchat announcing that it would be spreading a total payment of $1 million per day among various creators who created videos that achieved some amount of virality.This obviously resulted in a lot of users coming to Snapchat and trying this platform out, but Snapchat has now changed its payment program and this is resulting in a lot of creators exiting the platform, as reported by CNBC. The snapchat account shared some WhatsApp conversations purported to chat between the newscaster and the politician.
