For the first time, the platform has revealed the number of its active users. Some 52 million users go on Reddit everyday. That’s less than social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat, but Reddit is claiming growth of 44 per cent compared to 2019. “We’re sharing for the first time as a more accurate reflection of our user growth and to be more in-line with industry reporting,” said Jen Wong, chief operating officer of Reddit, to the Wall Street Journal. She added that her firm claimed an average of 52 million daily users. It is far less than Facebook (1.82 billion daily active users in September), Twitter (187 million users during the third quarter) and Snapchat (249 million of active members). At one time Reddit used to communicate its monthly number of users. During the same period last year, the platform recorded 430 million users a month. COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) An indictment that was unsealed Tuesday reveals an alleged insurance billing scheme where a group of 19 people collected $1.2 million. The scheme had been taking place since 2017. The group used several platforms to communicate with each other before submitted insurance claims from vehicle crashes. According to the indictment, the group used Snapchat, Gmail and Yahoo mail to communicate. At the center of it all is Lawrence Lawhorn. Lawrence Lawhorn ABC 17 News reported in August Lawhorn was the victim of a shooting at the Columbia Mall. One week after the shooting, Lawhorn was arrested for insurance fraud. Lawhorn himself made $1,500 in one instance in the scheme and $17,350 in another. According to the indictment, several of the defendants named used either email for Snapchat to send pictures of insurance policies to Lawhorn or, in one instance, the address where the wreck took place. In one instance, Larell Montez Bzanks sent a Snapchat message to Lawhorn four hours before a crash with the address of where the incident occurred. They’ve copied all they could from Snapchat. In my opinion, Mark Zuckerberg wants Facebook to be as ubiquitous as WeChat is in China. There is no denying that these apps use various methods to draw their users in and keep them there for hours every day. However, there is one major hobby that is worth everyone to try and take up: Reading. We spend multiple hours of screen time reading tweets on twitter, or liking pictures on Instagram, or even sending messages to friends and family. By repeating these actions constantly throughout the day, we teach our brains how to quickly switch focus from one thing to another. This leads to us not fully taking things in, because we don’t need to. It doesn’t take a lot of focus to read a message or to scroll through Instagram. So in the end, we are all strong in this skill in being able to quickly switch our focus from one thing to another, which is a good thing. By utilising this ability, we can maintain a balance in our lives, whether it be between school, extra-curricular, work, or even social life. This is where reading comes in…
