UTICA, N.Y. -- An alleged threat made from behind a 3x6-inch phone screen sent Utica Police into some students' homes, looking for guns. "Part of that investigation was to talk to every student that was named, their parents, ensure that they did not have weapons in their home and could not carry out this threat," said UPD Lt. "It was reported that students were going to come there at some point and potentially shoot up the school. Obviously, based on the nature of the specific threat, and the threat to a specific mentioned school with some named students, we took it very seriously," said Curley. And they learned it was personal. "We learned that in the community over the last couple of weeks, there's been two feuding groups," said Curley. "We've identified those groups; we've identified the parties therein and like we said, we've spoken to most of their parents and the students themselves. UTICA, N.Y. -- A social media threat directed at Donovan Middle School prompted a joint response from the Utica City School District and Utica Police Department. According to UPD, both groups learned of the Snapchat video on March 17 and began working together to identify those involved and anyone with information about the threat. Investigators found the threat stemmed from an earlier fight between two groups in the community. Members of both groups and their caregivers have been interviewed, and everyone so far has said the threat to the school was not real and the video targeted the opposing group, according to UPD.  The investigation is ongoing, and police may file criminal charges if necessary. Community partners SNUG and Rebuilding the Village have been brought in to help deescalate tensions and prevent further problems between the groups. Scottsboro City Schools heightened security Tuesday in a precautionary move. Added patrols will be at the campus. SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The Scottsboro City Board of Education is warning families after threatening messages were sent through Snapchat to students at Scottsboro Junior High School, prompting an immediate police investigation and heightened security measures. In a letter sent to families Monday night, Superintendent Jennifer Williams said school officials were made aware of the threatening messages at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Scottsboro Police Department began investigating the situation. Williams stated that, based on information provided by law enforcement, there is currently no indication of an immediate threat to the school. However, as an added precaution and in coordination with law enforcement, increased police presence was placed on campuses Tuesday. Scottsboro Police told FOX54 that the added security would involve extra patrols as a precautionary measure. "The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority," Williams wrote. "We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and follow their guidance as this situation is addressed." The superintendent also used the letter to encourage parents to speak with their children about responsible social media use and the importance of reporting any concerning messages

Samuel Martin Thomas Reilly, of Hillside Avenue, was arrested after police examined a phone belonging to another defendant. Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that evidence had been found showing that Reilly was a regular street drug dealer, and had engaged in selling, not just to close friends and associates. Messages had been found on Snapchat and Telegram, and Mr Kane said that there had also been allegations of enforcement, with implied threats of violence to get debts paid. Reilly was represented in court by advocate Stephen Wood and will be sentenced in summary court on April 14, after a probation report has been prepared.

Around 4 a.m. on August 27, 2025, one of Snelling’s roommates sent a message via Snapchat saying she thought she heard a loud noise that sounded like something falling, according to court records obtained by WXYT.
