The latest craze among creator platforms? Inventing their own awards shows to honor the most popular and creative people cranking out content on their apps. Snapchat on Wednesday announced the nominees for the first-ever Snappy Awards Show. The nominees across 21 categories “embody the innovation, creativity, and influence that define Snapchat’s community across entertainment, comedy, music, sports, beauty, and beyond,” the company said. As part of the inaugural Snappys, Snapchat will honor DJ Khaled with the Lifetime Achievement Award, “recognizing his lasting impact and influence as a creator, artist and entrepreneur,” the company said. The Grammy-winning recording artist and producer last year inked a nine-figure deal with Influence Media Partners that includes TV and film development and an investment in the rights to his music catalog. Michael Gallo, of 33 Canonchet Trail, Cranston, Rhode Island, was arrested Sunday, March 8, by Somerset police and was ordered held on $25,000 bail at his arraignment in Fall River District Court on Monday. The 33-year-old is charged with distributing obscene matter to a minor, two counts of enticement of a child under 16, and accosting/annoying another person, a Somerset Police post states. Somerset Police Department said they received a report in late January 2026 that Gallo had been sending lewd images, videos, and messages to a juvenile through the social media application Snapchat. During their communications, Gallo told the juvenile that he was 22 years old. The juvenile provided their correct age to Gallo, making him aware that the individual he was communicating with was under the age of 14, police said. On Sunday, March 8, Gallo arrived at a predetermined location in Somerset believing he was meeting the juvenile, and was taken into custody by Somerset Police detectives. A 20-year-old Hstings man was arrested Thursday after St. Johns County deputies say he robbed a person at gunpoint during a planned firearm sale arranged through social media. According to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph William Silcott was taken into custody Thursday following an armed robbery investigation that began earlier that afternoon. Deputies said the victim had arranged through Snapchat to purchase a firearm from Silcott. The two agreed to meet at the victim’s residence, where Silcott arrived in a black Saturn SUV shortly after 1:30 p.m. Silicott lived along this road in Hastings. (Google Maps) Investigators say the victim entered the rear passenger seat of the vehicle to complete the transaction. During the meeting, the victim handed Silcott $400 in cash — consisting of fifteen $20 bills and two $50 bills — in exchange for the firearm, according to an arrest report. Instead of completing the sale, deputies say Silcott pulled out a handgun and pointed it directly at the victim with his finger on the trigger. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 12-year-old girl at Silver Sands Middle School faces charges after police found she sent herself fake Snapchat threats of a school shooting. Authorities from Port Orange Police and Volusia County Sheriff’s Office investigated and concluded she fabricated the threats. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood emphasized that law enforcement must treat every report with urgency. “We have to investigate every potential threat to a school with everything we’ve got,” Chitwood said. The girl initially told authorities she received messages from an unknown user, which contained pictures of firearms, details of her class schedule and friends, demands for explicit images, and threats of a school shooting. “The messages included pictures of guns and details about her class schedule and her friends,” Chitwood said. “There were deleted messages she said were explicit images from the suspect.” The digital evidence ultimately pointed investigators back to the student. “What we found out was that our 12-year-old victim created the Snapchat account and sent the threatening messages to herself,” Chitwood said. Australia's online regulator warned porn websites they must block under-18s from Monday under sweeping new restrictions to protect children. Some sites in Australia had already barred non-members on Friday and were refusing new registrations, days before being obliged to use age verification technology to keep out underage users. The new rules expand Australia's online child safety measures following its world-leading December 10 ban on children under 16 joining social media platforms. The crackdown restricts child access to "age-inappropriate content" including pornography, high-impact violence, suicide and eating disorders. "Make no mistake, where we see failures or foot-dragging, we will hold companies to account," eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said Friday.
