A female teacher has been banned from the classroom for sending inappropriate messages to a vulnerable pupil at a special needs school she worked at. Kaodi O'Loughlin Campbell, 34, met the pupil while teaching at Elmwood School in Walsall, West Midlands, a special secondary school for children with social, emotional and mental health needs, between September 2021 and May 2022. But after leaving the school and finding a new job in a primary school, the two began communicating on social media in January 2023 and became friends on Snapchat. Communication between them continued for most of that year with the pupil reporting it to officials in October, leading to an investigation into the teacher's conduct. In one message, Ms O'Loughlin Campbell sent a message to the pupil stating: 'I ain't trying to move to you like that I ain't a pedo I just think you're a lovely person and I want the best for you.' In another she tells the pupil: 'Make sure you delete all messages from here.' A teenager filmed herself on Snapchat speeding and laughing, days before she killed two people in a crash. The footage - obtained by Gloucestershire Police officers analysing Liberty Mitchell's social media - was released after the 21-year-old was jailed on Friday. The videos showed her "lack of care for driving safely", police said, with one clip showing her veering onto the opposite side of the road towards an oncoming car as friends shouted for her to stop. Another showed her driving at 100 miles (161km) per hour on a country road. Mitchell was 18 years old when she killed taxi driver Octavian Codreanu and his passenger Moyra Whelan in a crash less than a month after passing her driving test. She had been travelling 96mph in a 60mph zone in Gloucestershire seconds before impact. Mitchell, from Chipping Norton, was jailed for six years and eight months at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday. She had admitted two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving whilst uninsured. KNX News’ Karen Adams reported that parents blocked the street and painted the names of 108 children. Many of those kids, the parents say, died from fentanyl poisoning after purchasing the drg through the app. Sarah Gardner with Heat Initiative, which organized this massive demonstration, told said this is about “showing Snapchat for what it really is- a platform that is killing kids.” “Any other product in America that killed 108 children,” she said. “Can you imagine it remaining on the market? Amanda Faith was among the parents who attended the demonstration. She said she lost her son, Luca, to a fentanyl overdose and that he got the drug from a dealer through Snapchat. “My son died in 2020 and nothing on the application has actually been changed to protect children,” she said. “Nothing but lip service.” Faith and the other parents demanded changes to protect children, including “actual age verification.” After the demonstration, the memorial was powerwashed. More than 40 families, whose children died as a result of social media harms, Thursday rallied outside of Snap Inc. headquarters to urge the company to make changes on their social media application for the protection of youth. These families arrived by charter bus to Santa Monica Business Park, where they blocked off the road leading into Snap Inc.’s buildings. The families along with child-safety advocates from Heat Initiatives began painting the names of 108 children and young adults on the road. Families said their loved ones died due to harms they experienced while using Snapchat, which involved access to drugs and other illicit substances, online bullying and sexual exploitation. The group urged Snap Inc. to implement safety measures such as the removal of all addictive features, default minor users to the most private settings, remove features that facilitate harmful connections with adults, disable any artificial intelligence chat-companion, implement age assurance, and to stop algorithms that promote harmful information, drugs and child sexual abuse. A representative for Snap Inc. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
