The Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office said Greensburg police detectives have been looking into 35-year-old Christa Kuhns since April, when they were contacted by Children and Youth Services caseworkers.  During a forensic interview with a juvenile victim, the district attorney's office said a Snapchat video showed several children sitting on the door frames of a moving vehicle and hanging out of the windows. Investigators learned that when the video was taken, Kuhns was the driver.  After talking to more kids involved, the district attorney's office said investigators learned that Kuhns offered mushrooms to several minors on a camping trip in 2024.  One of the children described the mushrooms as white and bitter. After ingesting the mushrooms, the victims were allowed to sit on door frames and hang out of the moving vehicle while Kuhns drove, the DA's office said. Kyle Svara, 26, is accused of getting access to Snapchat access codes for nearly 600 women. ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch He allegedly got into the accounts of more than 50 women to steal nude images. Svara is charged with aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud, conspiracy to commit computer fraud and false statements related to child pornography, officials said. A former track and field coach at Northeastern University, Steve Waithe, allegedly hired Svara to hack accounts of women Waithe had coached or had other relationships with. Waithe is currently in prison. Prosecutors said Svara also allegedly targeted women who resided in or around the area of Plainfield, or who were students at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. People who may have allegedly been victims of Svara's are asked to contact the FBI. Svara is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston on Feb. 4. ABC News contributed to this report. U.S. adolescents spend more than one hour per day on smartphones during school hours, with social media accounting for the largest share of use, according to  research published Jan. 5, 2026, in JAMA . The findings have relevance for educators, parents and policymakers.  The study reflects the behavior of 640 adolescents ages 13-18 who were enrolled in the  Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study . They and their parents had consented to have software placed on their Android cellphones that allowed use to be passively monitored. Usage was measured between September 2022 and May 2024.   Key findings:  Adolescents spent an average of 1.16 hours per day on smartphones during school hours.  Social media apps Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat accounted for most use, followed by YouTube and games.  Older adolescents (16–18) and those from lower-income households showed higher smartphone use, compared to peers of the same age.  “These apps are designed to be addictive. They deprive students of the opportunity to be fully engaged in class and to hone their social skills with classmates and teachers,” said Dr.  Dimitri Christakis , the paper’s senior author.  He is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and practices at Seattle Children's

A judge on Sunday denied bond for a registered sex offender accused of kidnapping an 11-year-old boy and holding him for several days in Flagler County, authorities said.Darnell Hairston, 60, of Hastings, made his first court appearance following his arrest after deputies said a routine traffic stop on Dec. 31 led to the rescue of the missing child.According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a white Ford F-150 on U.S. Highway 1 near Whiteview Drive in Bunnell after a caller reported suspicious activity. Investigators said Hairston and two juveniles were inside the vehicle.Once deputies separated the 11-year-old from Hairston, the child immediately told them he had been kidnapped, was in danger and feared for his life, investigators said. The boy, who had been missing for three days, was taken to a local hospital.Sheriff’s deputies said the child told investigators that Hairston lured him to a wooded campsite in Flagler Estates, where he was choked unconscious. Their study focuses on British teens aged 13 to 18 and was conducted after COVID-19 lockdowns, when young people spent more time online. Rather than treating Snapchat as simply a risky app, the researchers show how it has become a core part of teenage social life, influencing how young people make friends, flirt, explore sexuality, and experience abuse. Everyday Connection and New Friendships For most participants, Snapchat was an essential communication tool. Teens described using it constantly to message friends, share jokes, send photos, and feel close to others, especially during lockdown when face-to-face contact was limited. The app’s disappearing messages and casual photo-sharing felt less pressured than other platforms, making it easier to be spontaneous and “real.” At the same time, Snapchat encouraged teens to connect with people they did not fully know. The “Quick Add” feature suggested new contacts based on mutual friends, and many
