CHEO is giving the public an unprecedented look at how it is managing high patient volumes and staffing challenges this fall to keep its pediatric intensive care unit open to "life and limb" patients. "I'm desperate for staff tonight," Clinical Operations Manager, Nights – Kerri-Lynne White says in a video released by CHEO, showing how the hospital is juggling staff. "I'm willing to wheel and deal." The children's hospital is at 124 per cent occupancy in its inpatient medical units, where the bulk of emergency admissions are transferred, and "all budgeted beds are full", according to the hospital. CHEO says on many nights over the last few weeks, more than a dozen patients were admitted nightly in the emergency department with no bed available in units. "Our intensive care unit has been in ‘life or limb’ status for much of the past two weeks," CHEO said in a statement, adding all critical care units have been at or over capacity every day since Sept. 11. "And our emergency department, which yesterday alone saw 61 more patients than it was built for (211 patients vs. 150), is experiencing hours-long waits for care." Hand Rolled: a film about cigars, is streaming for free now on YouTube. When two commercial filmmakers decided they wanted to tell a story in 90 minutes instead of half a minute, what came out was a documentary about the cigar industry. Jesse Mariut and Steve Gherebean are both cigar passionados and they worked on Hand Rolled: A Film about Cigars for three years. One of the producers of the documentary is Pete Johnson of Tatuaje Cigars. “The story of our industry needs to be told,” he tells us. “There’s never been a documentary that really describes the many different dynamics that go into a premium cigar and tells all the heart-warming stories of the manufacturers.” Besides Johnson himself, the documentary also features cigar makers like Orlando and Jorge Padrón, Rocky Patel, José “Don Pepín” García, and Nestor Andres Plasencia. Even though his videos make no overt reference to COVID-19, one of the major video-sharing platforms restricted a cartoonist’s fictional series called “UNJABBED” for what they allege is “dangerous” health-related content. The videos were created by Indianapolis, Indiana-based comic artist Ken Avidor using narration, music and sketches.  Ken is the creator of the 2018 comic book “Bicyclopolis” and the graphic novel Cifiscape Vol. I, the Twin Cities, which are also science fiction stories set in a dystopian future  Vimeo notified Avidor that his two-minute dystopian film, which told a future take of a man who flees authorities after his wife dies from a vaccine, had broken the platform’s terms of service.
