Now Shippng: The Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colordao Claro Eduardo I | Cigar Journal

Plasencia Cigars, a world-leading premium tobacco grower established in 1865, announces that the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Eduardo I is now shipping to retailers. Available in a Toro Box Pressed 6 1/4 x 54, the vitola named EduardoI is in dedication to the very first generation of the Plasencia tobacco family. The new vitola was introduced to retailers in July at the 2022 PCA in Las Vegas, Nevada. Eduardo Plasencia was the pioneer of the Plasencia tobacco family. He migrated from the Canary Islands to Cuba and started growing tobacco in 1865 and thus the Plasencia tobacco legacy was born. Today, the Plasencia tobacco family is in its 5th generation and the decision was made to create a vitola in homage, the Eduardo I. The Colorado Claro wrapper which comes from the vast Plasencia tobacco library was aged for over 10 years, which results in a smoother smoking experience. Plasencia Cigars CEO Nestor Andres Plasencia stated: “It is important for us to continue to acknowledge our family history and use them as inspiration as we go forward. Chattanooga City Council candidate defends remarks about Jewish slave owners

Activist Marie Mott, who is running for the District 8 seat on the Chattanooga City Council, is defending comments she made in 2020 about Jewish slave owners, which have resurfaced on social media less than two weeks before the Sept. 15 election. On Tuesday, an anonymous Twitter account with nine followers posted an approximately 35-second video of Mott in which she states that Jews "participated in the institution of chattel slavery.""Yes, they owned slaves in the South," she said in the video. "Yes, they joined the Confederacy and took up arms against this nation with traitors to uphold the institution of slavery. Yes. Yes it happened. When are we going to deal with it? It happened. When are we going to deal with it? What are we going to do?"The account, called Mott Speaks, was created in September, and the clip was pulled from a 30-minute video posted on Facebook, which the operator of the Twitter account shared with the Chattanooga Times Free Press. The operator declined to identify himself or herself to the paper."As leaders, we are held responsible for our actions," City Councilwoman Marvene Noel, of Orchard Knob, said in a statement to the Times Free Press.Noel is defending…

Audrey Napanangka: A Statement from the Heart | FilmInk

“There have been many films, particularly by First Nations creatives, with great depth and insights into First Nations lives,” Penelope McDonald responds humbly when we praise the insight of her return to directing with the intimate feature documentary Audrey Napanangka, after producing and administering for the past 30 years. “Audrey as a senior woman has a deep understanding of what it means to be Warlpiri. She gave us fantastic access to her life, and aspects of Warlpiri culture and of the issues that affect her, living as she does away from her lands, and in a colonised world. I feel privileged to know her and play a role in amplifying her life story. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked alongside and been inspired by some of Australia’s established and emerging First Nations filmmakers which have helped inform my worldview. I feel blessed to have had these experiences and call some of these filmmakers my family. “My daughter Rona Glynn McDonald was an EP on the film and is the founder of Common Ground, an organisation established to amplify First Nations voices, perspectives, and cultures through storytelling. She, alongside many others, are paving the way for a bright future. “There, however, have…

Standing 100 Years Strong -The Rose Bowl Stadium from Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation on Vimeo. The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation has announced the completion of its $40 million centennial fundraising campaign that launched in 2017. The campaign announcement was shared by Legacy Board of Directors and Campaign Chairman, Mickey Segal, during the recent Rose Bowl Party of the Century on the field of the iconic stadium on August 13. “The Legacy Foundation has grown by leaps and bounds over the past several years because of the enthusiasm of donors – big and small – around the country,” said Segal, who has been involved with the Foundation since the early 2010s and leading its Board since 2015. “This fundraising campaign was one that many thought was not attainable. But our Board, Advisory Board, and support base around the country answered with a resilient result that is emblematic of the Stadium’s history.” The goal of the centennial campaign was to reach $40 million in gross donations prior to the venue’s 100th birthday, which was met early with the announcement at the Party of the Century. Amidst the campaign, Legacy grew its donor base from 25 local donors to about 5,000 donors nationwide…

Vimeo James Acaster is a standup comic from London. He's appeared on a bunch of TV shows over there – Mock the Week, Taskmaster, Hypothetical and more. This past month he released his third book: James Acaster's Guide to Quitting Social Media. On stage, his comedy is observational, a little absurd and animated, but also really cutting. His most recent special is called Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999. He had a somewhat viral clip earlier this year from the special where he calls out transphobia and so-called edgy comedians. This week, we're revisiting our conversation with James from 2018. When we spoke to James he'd just released his first ever Netflix Special. It's called James Acaster: Repertoire. The special is made up of four segments – each part is an hour long live special. We'll talk about the different ways comics in the US and UK develop their material and how James has struggled to bring his comedy stateside. Plus, he'll discuss the time he genuinely believed he was in…
