SAN FRANCISCO (CN) — A federal judge said Wednesday that jurisdiction issues will likely doom two lawsuits accusing Meta of facilitating investment scams through fraudulent ads. U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick III said he was inclined to dismiss the lawsuits following the dismissal of a similar case, Bouck v. Meta Platforms, Inc. , in which Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg, a Barack Obama appointee, found the Securities Litigation Uniform Standards Act preempts the plaintiffs’ claims. Meta argued the case amounted to a securities class action brought under state law. Meta has launched the first ever advanced AI image generation tool for Instagram and WhatsApp, bringing it in line with rivals like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The generative AI feature Muse Image, built by Meta Superintelligence Labs, will be integrated into the tech giant’s Meta AI chatbot, allowing users of the apps to edit and create images using prompts and sketches. NEW DELHI: Govt has given WhatsApp three more days to respond to its notice over the messaging platform's proposed username feature. The Meta-owned company has assured the govt it will not roll out the feature in India until consultations are complete. According to a PTI report, WhatsApp sought additional time to reply to the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) after govt raised concerns that the feature could increase online fraud, phishing, impersonation and so-called "digital arrest" scams. The original deadline expired last week. The proposed feature would allow users to communicate without sharing their mobile phone numbers by using unique usernames instead. LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has held that mere creation or administration of a WhatsApp group does not, by itself, make the creator or administrator criminally liable for every post made by its members. The court passed this order in a bail application of one Syed Abdul Mannan facing a case of sharing blasphemous and sacrilegious posts, allegedly. The court dismissed the bail as the petitioner failed to make out a case for further inquiry and directed the trial court to expedite the trial.
