WhatsApp rolls out emoji reactions, bigger files, and massive groups – BusinessGhana

WhatsApp is now rolling out the ability to react to a message with emoji, as well as share files that are up to 2GB in size, a massive jump from the previous 100MB limit. Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, said last month that these features would be coming “soon,” and it seems like today’s the day. The company also announced on Thursday that it’ll be doubling the maximum size of group chats. When reactions were first announced, Meta said that you’d only be able to use a select few to start out with but that support for “all emojis and skin-tones” would be added in the future. The reactions are a useful feature, which is why other apps like Slack and Telegram have had them for a while — if you want to be able to show that a message made you laugh without clogging up the group chat, you’ve now got a way to do that. That’s going to be extra important soon, as WhatsApp is also expanding the default maximum size of group chats, with the cap going from 256 to 512 (though there have reportedly been hack-y workarounds to get past the previous limit). WhatsApp’s blog post notes…

WhatsApp rolls out Facebook-like message reactions feature with 6 emojis – Business Standard

The message reactions feature, which was announced last month by WhatsApp, will now be rolled out to its users. According to GSM Arena, it will work similar to how Facebook's reactions work. The user needs to long-press on a WhatsApp message and select the emoji he or she wants to react with. Right now, users get to choose from six emojis, as shown by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his Facebook post but WhatsApp has promised to add support for more emojis and skin tones in the future. The message reactions feature is already available for some users on the latest version of WhatsApp, but it will be about a week or two before it reaches all WhatsApp users globally. In addition to reacting to messages with emojis, WhatsApp users can also share larger files now since WhatsApp has increased the file transfer size from 100MB to 2GB. Besides, WhatsApp has doubled the maximum number of participants allowed in a group chat, from 256 to 512 people. However, as per GSM Arena, the platform has said that it is "slowly rolling out the ability" to add up to 512 people to a group, so users will have to wait before…

You can now respond to messages with emoji reactions on WhatsApp | The Star

WhatsApp has announced that emoji reactions to messages are now available for users on the latest version of the app. The company explained that reactions – unlike replying to a message directly with an emoji, text or GIF – are faster and can help to reduce overload in group chats. Currently some reactions that are available include the prayer, heart and thumbs up emojis. The company added that it will improve the feature by adding more expressions in the future. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also announced the availability of reactions on WhatsApp through his Facebook page, saying the prayer emoji was included to "help spread thanks and appreciations". Meta is WhatsApp's parent company. According to a report by The Verge, reactions will be rolled out to everyone in “about a week” though some users may have already have the feature. To use reactions, hover over a message, click Menu > React to message then select one of the displayed emoji. An FAQ states that users can add only one reaction per message and they can also remove the reaction. Apart from reactions, users can also send files within WhatsApp to up to 2GB in size at a time, an…

WhatsApp rolls out emoji reactions for its users – Sambad English

San Francisco: Meta-owned WhatsApp is now rolling out the ability to react to messages to people that use the most recent versions of WhatsApp for Android, iOS, Web and Desktop. According to WABetaInfo, the current version of message reactions brings six emojis — Like, Love, Laugh, Surprised, Sad, and Thanks. Reactions are available for chats and groups and, when users tap and hold a message bubble, they can react to a message by choosing one emoji. Users can see who reacted to any incoming and outgoing message by tapping the reaction icon: a reaction info section shows up that lists all people with the emoji they used to react to the message. Every time someone reacts to a user’s messages, they receive a push notification, which is enabled by default but they can also disable notifications for reactions by opening your notification settings within WhatsApp. The feature is finally rolling out to more people, but note that the feature will take up to seven days to reach everyone, the report said. A recent report said that WhatsApp is likely working on the ability to view status updates right within the chats list in a future update of the app. This…

Will WhatsApp's new Communities feature give Teams and Slack a run for their money?

Just last week, WhatsApp unveiled a new feature known as "Communities" to bring together separate groups under one umbrella. That way people can receive updates sent to the entire Community and easily organise smaller discussion groups on what matters to them. Some of the features include emoji reactions, supporting files up to 2GB, one-tap voice calling for up to 32 people, and announcement messages by admins. “Organisations such as schools, local clubs, and non-profit organisations rely on WhatsApp to communicate securely and get things done – especially since the pandemic forced us all to find creative ways to work together while apart. Given lots of feedback we’ve received, we think there’s more we can do to make it easier to help people manage these busy conversations among these kinds of groups,” it said. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post that he expects Communities to be "an important evolution" for WhatsApp and online communication overall.  "In the same way that social feeds took the basic technology behind the Internet and made it so anyone could find people and content online, I think community messaging will take the basic protocols behind one-to-one messaging and extend them so you can…

Meta Tells High Court To Deny Spyware Co.'s Immunity Bid – Law360

By Humberto J. Rocha (May 4, 2022, 4:30 PM EDT) -- Meta and its subsidiary WhatsApp told the U.S. Supreme Court to reject a review petition from Israeli spyware firm NSO Group Technologies, which is appealing a Ninth Circuit ruling that denied it foreign immunity from WhatsApp's hacking claims. In a 40-page brief filed Tuesday with the nation's high court, Meta argued that lower courts had correctly ruled that the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act does not protect private foreign companies like NSO against liability in American courts. Additionally, given the nature of the Israeli firm's focus, granting the company any sort of immunity would go against American national security and foreign policy...
