WhatsApp rolls out changes to media visibility for disappearing messages, new drawing tools

WhatsApp is expanding its technological capabilities for Android, namely a graphical editor and disappearing messages. The platform is making modifications to the media visibility option for the disappearing messages. Previously, all media files were saved in the gallery by default, but with this new version, you must edit the settings and do it manually. Another WhatsApp update to the Universal Windows Platform app had brought along a feature named 'View Once' to the Windows beta app. The feature, already rolled out for Android and iOS users last year, lets a message self-destruct after it is seen once. Your WhatsApp groups may soon get a polling feature – Metro UK

WhatsApp might soon be introducing a new feature allowing users to conduct polls within groups. In the coming few weeks, users may see the polling feature that is currently being tested on the latest beta version. Polls are an option on most apps like Twitter, Telegram and Facebook so it’s about time WhatsApp gets one. While the early rumours indicate the feature is coming to iOS, it will likely include Android as well. The polls on group chats feature is reportedly being tested in WhatsApp’s 22.8.0.72 beta version at present. With the new update, users should be able to create a question with custom choices for responses that people on the group chat can vote for. The number of choices is reportedly limited to 12 and can be rearranged in any order. The Meta-owned messaging app had the polls feature under development for a while until the recent beta version. The fact WhatsApp does not have a rather basic feature like polls seems an oversight on the part of the company, considering it is the primary messaging app in many countries. The new feature should be welcome for groups of families as well as work, making it like Slack. Screenshots obtained…

WhatsApp limits how many chat groups messages can be forwarded to | The Star

WhatsApp is limiting how many people a user can forward messages to, potentially slowing down the spread of misinformation. Leaker site WABetaInfo reported that the limit works by allowing users to forward a message that has been flagged as “forwarded many times” to only one group chat at a time. WhatsApp flags messages that have been forwarded more than five times with two forward arrows versus the usual single forward arrow, in order to warn that the message had been widely shared or had gone viral. In a screenshot by WABetaInfo, the app blocked the attempted mass forwarding with a message that read “forwarded message can only be sent to one group chat”. “As you can see in this screenshot, it is no longer possible to forward forwarded messages to more than one group chat at a time and this is an additional way to limit spam and misinformation,” it speculated. Normally, messages can be forwarded to up to five group chats. The site said the new limits were being imposed on iOS users, after being tested on Android beta testers.

WhatsApp's New Multidevice Feature Should Be Copied by Apple's iMessage – CNET

WhatsApp's new multidevice features are rolling out to public release. James Martin/CNET WhatsApp's new multidevice feature, previously in beta and now rolling out to the public over the next several months, makes it much easier to text friends and family from nearly any device with a few tweaks to how WhatsApp's web and desktop apps work. The result preserves much of the encryption and security that WhatsApp is known for, while also creating a cross-platform texting experience that reminds me of using iMessage across Mac and an iPhone -- but without the requirement of being stuck on just Apple's devices.WhatsApp's desktop apps are not new, to be clear. However, they previously required a constant connection with your phone in order to function. If your phone powered off or was temporarily lost, you essentially couldn't access your texts at all. Other Meta-owned services like Messenger don't have this limitation, but at the cost to your privacy of not having end-to-end encryption on by default.WhatsApp now lets you pick as many as four devices aside from your phone that can send and receive WhatsApp messages. You set up these devices by scanning a QR code generated on WhatsApp's website or desktop app…
