Ilona Taimela, a teacher based out of Finland, has opened up about teaching children of people linked to the Islamic State (IS) through WhatsApp. "Whoever the children are, they have a right to education," she told the BBC. Taimela stated teaching 23 Finnish children who lived in al-Hol camp, which is a tent city of nearly 60,000 people who are related to the IS group. These children have been holed up in these tents for years now while western countries assess if the children and their mother can be repatriated or do they pose a future threat. The children were able to get worldly learnings only from semi-functioning charity schools. When the pandemic began in 2020, Finland’s government promoted the idea of teaching the Finnish kids stuck in the camp through virtual aids. WhatsApp is reportedly receiving an option which will let users edit the recipients before they send out media. This functionality was spotted in a beta update but it is said to be still under development and may take some time to reach beta testers. However, there is no information on when that may happen. Earlier this week, WhatsApp announced a pilot programme with the Meta-owned fintech platform Novi digital wallet. This will allow users to send and receive money from within the messaging app itself.As per WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, a new feature was discovered in the WhatsApp beta for Android update 2.21.25.19. The new feature will let users edit the recipients before sending out media. The tracker also shared a partial screenshot which shows when users are in the media editor menu of WhatsApp, they will be able to select more people and groups as recipients, even if they are in a different chat. The pilot program lets users of the encrypted messaging app send and receive money "instantly, securely, and with no fees" using the Paxos Dollar (USPD) stablecoin, whose value is linked to the US dollar. The way the payments work in WhatsApp is similar to sending regular attachments in a conversation. Users tap the plus (+) icon and then select Payment from the menu that appears. Users who are paid this way receive USDP, which can be withdrawn to a bank account in its equivalent value in US dollars. There's no cap on the number of times the Novi system can be used to send and receive money through WhatsApp. Regardless of frequency of use, there are no fees associated with keeping a balance in a Novi account or withdrawing it to a bank account.
