WhatsApp is finally getting end-to-end encryption for chat backups on Google Drive and iCloud. Here's how to use the feature. WhatsApp has offered end-to-end encryption for messages for a few years now. This means that messages sent on the platform are entirely encrypted and cannot be read by anyone in transit. However, WhatsApp backups to iCloud and Google Drive are not encrypted, making them potentially unsafe and insecure. That is now changing as Facebook has announced that it is rolling out end-to-end encryption for WhatsApp backups stored on iCloud and Google Drive. Why Encrypted Backups Are Important This is an important move from a security viewpoint, especially since content stored on Google Drive and iCloud is not encrypted. End-to-end encryption for backups will be available for WhatsApp users on both iPhone and Android. You can either use a 64-bit encryption key or a password to encrypt the backups. The feature is not enabled by default, so you must manually enable end-to-end encryption for your WhatsApp cloud backups. Champika claims CID recorded his WhatsApp calls

Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Champika Ranawaka today alleged that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had recorded his WhatsApp calls. He said that he had been questioned by the CID recently over the conversations he had using WhatsApp. Ranawaka said that WhatsApp calls are encrypted and Sri Lanka did not have the technology to tap such conversations. However, he said that the CID seems to have got its hand on the technology to tap WhatsApp calls. The MP had appeared before the CID last month and was questioned over transactions made when he was a Minister in the former Government. Ranawaka said that when being questioned by the CID it was revealed that his telephone calls were monitored in 2018 and 2019.
