Google has teamed up with WhatsApp to deliver a world-first feature on its new Pixel 10 smartphones – voice and video calls over a satellite connection. The feature, announced via Google’s official X account, will launch on August 28, the same day the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL come out in Australia. Unlike Apple’s iPhone, which limits satellite use to SOS alerts, or Samsung’s Galaxy S25 which supports basic text messaging, the Pixel 10 series will be the first to make everyday WhatsApp calls without mobile or Wi-Fi coverage. In a demo video, a Pixel 10 was shown receiving a WhatsApp call with a satellite icon in the status bar, highlighting how the service will work in remote or network-dead zones. Google says the rollout will initially cover only select carriers, and extra charges may apply, though details for Australian users are yet to be confirmed. WhatsApp is experimenting with a new feature that brings a voicemail-style experience to its calling system. The update, currently available in beta version 2.25.23.21 for Android, was spotted by WABetaInfo , as always. According to WABetaInfo, users who make a WhatsApp voice call that goes unanswered will now see a “Record voice message” option alongside the familiar “Call again” and “Cancel” buttons. This option allows the caller to instantly send an audio message to the recipient without having to leave the call menu. The “Record voice message” button also appears within the chat window of the contact who missed the call to make it more seamless. While WhatsApp already lets users send voice messages manually through the mic icon in chats, this new feature eliminates extra steps, making the process faster and more intuitive. The addition is particularly useful for situations where you need to leave an urgent message for the call recipient. The feature is currently available only to select beta testers on Android, and there’s no official word yet from WhatsApp or Meta on when (or if) it will roll out to the general public.

Richard Sharp and Dean Lewis, along with five colleagues, also made other 'highly derogatory' sexual comments, including fantasies involving one manager. The WhatsApp messages also contained a cartoon picture of Snow White, a reference to another employee, in a 'sexual pose' with Pinocchio, as well discussion of – and photos from – 'upskirting', including naming a co-worker. The men also shared racist and Islamophobic 'jokes' and mocked a company-wide reminder about the harassment policy. A whistleblower alerted the wastewater management company to the 'offensive' messages and a disciplinary investigation was launched resulting in the dismissal of all seven men. Mr Sharp and Mr Lewis sued Xylem Water Solutions for unfair dismissal, arguing that the outcome of misconduct process had been 'pre determined'.  An employment tribunal found there were 'genuine concerns' but chose not to award compensation, finding the executives would have been fired even if correct processes has been followed. Heads up if you tend to dodge, ignore, or genuinely miss calls on WhatsApp: the app is working on a voicemail-like feature. Here’s how it will work. According to WABetaInfo (via Tecnoblog ), the feature was introduced in the latest Android beta, but not yet on iOS. They explain that if a call goes unanswered, a new “Record voice message” button pops up at the bottom of the screen, alongside the Call again and Cancel options. This lets the user quickly record a voice message, rather than either trying to call again or navigating to the chat interface to record one manually. As with most features uncovered by WABetaInfo, there’s no timeline for when (or if) it will roll out to everyone. There’s also no sign of it in the WhatsApp TestFlight for iOS yet. Lucknow: It's time to check your mobile phone for any e-challan notices that you may have received from the state transport department's WhatsApp Chatbot service (8005441222), and pay the amount. The transport department has taken up a massive exercise to realise challans pending for 2024-25. As there are over one-third of total pending challans where the mobile numbers are either wrong or missing in registration details of the vehicles, the department has advised owners to check the status of challans against their vehicles on the parivahan.gov.in portal themselves and make payment to avoid stricter punishment. "Currently, we are sending notices for challans pending for 2024-25. Later, we will start a similar exercise for 2022 and 2023," transport commissioner Brajesh Narain Singh said. A total of 36 lakh e-challan notices may be sent by the department directly to vehicle owners' mobile numbers through its WhatsApp chatbot service, which is a blue tick verified service and approved by the central govt, for three financial years starting 2022-23.
