Harry Potter Series Not ‘Being Infused’ With J.K. Rowling Anti-Trans Views – Variety

HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys recently appeared on “The Town” podcast and stressed to “Harry Potter” fans that the network’s upcoming TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling‘s literary franchise will not be “infused” with the author’s controversial views on the transgender community. Both the network and the new “Harry Potter” cast have received backlash for getting into business with Rowling, who continues to post what many believe are transphobic comments on X. She also uses social media to regularly troll her critics and take aim at public figures (such as slamming John Oliver’s comments on trans athletes). “The decision to be in business with J.K. Rowling is not new for us. We’ve been in business for 25 years,” Bloys said, nodding to the mega-successful “Harry Potter” film franchise that spawned eight movies, grossed $7.7 billion worldwide and launched spinoffs, video games and more. Popular on Variety Bloys was asked if Rowling’s views on the trans community made him worried for the show, to which he continued: “We already have a show on HBO from her called ‘C.B. Strike’ that we do with the BBC. It’s pretty clear that those are her personal, political views. She’s entitled to them. ‘Harry Potter’ is not secretly being

Why Lit Hub is no longer on Twitter

May 1, 2025, 11:42am “Why I’m leaving Twitter” is, at this point, an irritating genre of post. Nonetheless, it’s important to go on record in the face of Elon Musk’s vacuous amorality and its concomitant amplification of actual Nazis (not to mention his relentlessly inept destruction of American government as oligarch-in-chief). Look, the guy is bad, and his platform is bad, and most of the people on his platform are bad. We no longer want to provide free content and engagement to a deranged billionaire and his dysfunctional little clubhouse. I understand the argument that we shouldn’t cede our space in the public square to the bad people, to which I respond: How is a privately owned, algorithmically driven digital service, that suppresses speech it doesn’t like and amplifies speech (often hateful) that it does, anything like a true public square? To take the analogy further: If all your friends have left the town square, and it’s full of hateful morons with the loudest bullhorns, who just want to sell you fallout shelter supplies and dick pills, wouldn’t you leave?  So that’s why we’ve left Twitter (see below for our last post, if you don’t want to actually visit the

Threads Reaches 350 Million Active Users | Social Media Today

It’s still got a way to go, but Threads is gradually closing the gap on X in terms of overall usage, with Meta’s answer to Twitter now exceeding 350 million monthly active users. Meta made the announcement within its latest earnings update, where it also shared that Threads has seen a 35% increase in time spent, which it says is a result of improvements that it’s continuing to make to its recommendation systems. A Meta spokesman shared this statement: “With more people joining the vibrant conversations and communities on Threads, it’s on track to be Meta's next major social app, and the best alternative to X and other text-based sharing platforms.” So while Threads is seeking to establish its own identity, beating out X is still clearly among its key aims. And as noted, while it’s not there yet, it is inching closer: As you can see in this chart, X recently claimed to have reached 600 million monthly active users, which still sees it at almost double Threads’ total usage. But I also don’t entirely trust X’s data on this. For example, X owner Elon Musk claimed that X had 600 million users back in May 2024, but X’s

X Gets Taste Of OG Twitter Antics With Hilarious 100 People Vs. Gorilla Conversation

Oli Scarff/Getty Images X, formerly Twitter, has changed a lot over the years, but occasionally, there’s a conversation that restores the feeling. Over the weekend, one person questioned if 100 people could defeat one gorilla, and endless jokes ensued. “i think 100 ni**as could beat 1 gorilla everybody just gotta be dedicated to the sh*t,” one user wrote on Friday (April 25) with laughing emojis. There were a myriad of responses to this, ranging from serious explanations of how lethal gorillas could be, to suggestions on the type of combatants that should comprise the collective of 100 people, pure delusional confidence from some folks, and humorous depictions of how gorillas would act after handling their enemies. One X user shared a video of Steve Harvey making money noises during a stand-up show and wrote, “When I’ve just seen 99 ni**as get massacred and I’ve gotta confuse the gorilla I’m just as mad as he is.” Another user shared a clip of Pinky from Next Friday saying, “Sh*t, that ni**a had me scared but I held my own, f**k that” and included the following caption: “Me after the gorilla passes out and dies before he gets to me because he got
