AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 19/10th ranked Longhorns return to Mike A. Myers Stadium for the final time this 2024-25 outdoor season to host 16 programs for the Texas Invitational. The two-day meet will begin Thursday afternoon and will conclude Friday afternoon. The competition: No. 22/NR Arizona State, NR/No. 6 Baylor, Franciscan, Houston, Incarnate Word, Midwestern St., North Texas, Northern Colorado, SMU, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas State, No. 10/12 Texas Tech, University of Victoria, UTSA and Wisconsin Texas Record Holders: Could Texas be the new hurdle U? CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team (21-15) rode a 10-run third inning to a 13-1 seven-inning run-rule victory over Georgetown (13-27) on Tuesday night (April 22) at Disharoon Park. In the 10-run third, UVA sent 15 batters to the plate and collected eight hits, including a home run and a pair of doubles. The 10 runs tied the 10-run third on March 5 against William & Mary for the most runs scored in a frame by the Cavalier bats this season. The Virginia trio of Aidan Teel, Eric Becker and Henry Ford each tallied a multi-hit game in the victory, while Henry Godbout drove in four runs to match his career high. HOW IT HAPPENED   Georgetown’s lone run came in the top of the first when the Hoyas strung together three straight two-out singles to take an early 1-0 lead. The unseeded Hungarian defeated No. 2 seed Katie Volynets of the United States 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to win the Oeiras Ladies Open title in Oeiras, Portugal. Rain played havoc with the schedule all week, but the clay-court event finished on time on Sunday, concluding with Galfi's 2-hour and 13-minute comeback in the final. "Third time’s the charm," 26-year-old Galfi said in her Instagram post celebrating her biggest professional title. In Galfi's two prior WTA 125 finals, she lost to Sara Errani at 2022 Contrexeville and to Darja Semenistaja earlier this month at La Bisbal d'Emporda. CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team capped off a perfect Horizon League regular season slate Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Oakland. With the win, the Vikings captured the #HLTennis Regular Season title, improving to 12-9 on the year and 6-0 in league play. This marks Cleveland State's seventh Horizon League Regular Season title and second undefeated season in league play. At no other school would she be reunited her with her brother Griffin. “I was like, ‘Not many people can say that they were able to go to school with their twin and both be athletes there,’ ” Lara recalled this week. Griffin was already at UVA, studying economics in the classroom and playing close defense on the men’s lacrosse team. He’d arrived on Grounds in the summer of 2022 after spending his freshman year at the University of Richmond. Two years later, Lara began looking for a new home after two seasons at the University of Florida, the first of which she’d missed with a knee injury. Another sibling, Kyle, had preceded Griffin on the Cavalier men’s team, so Lara already knew something about Charlottesville and UVA’s academic reputation.
