Elon Musk's X, Formerly Twitter, May Not Regain Advertisers Before the Holidays: Report

Since Elon Musk's takeover, controversies have dogged Twitter, now known as X, and among them were losing advertisers and laying off many workers. To remedy its loss of advertisers, the billionaire appointed Linda Yaccarino as the Chief Executive Officer of X. However, despite the efforts, major brands seem reluctant to return, already allocating their budgets elsewhere for the upcoming holiday season, historically the prime period for ad revenue, Bloomberg reported. Elon Musk has revealed today a new logo for Twitter, which constitutes the letter 'X' as part of a rebrand of the company. X Efforts to Reestablish Advertiser Base X has been working diligently to reestablish its advertiser base, which eroded after Elon Musk's tumultuous acquisition and the implementation of controversial policy changes, resulting in a loss of over half the company's annual revenue.  Bloomberg explains that marketers typically finalize their holiday budgets by August, leaving limited room for last-minute adjustments. Natasha Blumenkron, Vice President of Paid Social at Tinuiti, noted that X's historical revenue peak occurred in the final quarter of the year.  "It would take a big

Trump’s Twitter account is the subject of a search warrant by federal prosecutors.Credit...Jamie Kelter Davis for The New York TimesSept. 15, 2023, 5:39 p.m. ETThe federal prosecutors who charged former President Donald J. Trump with a criminal conspiracy over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election obtained 32 private messages from his Twitter account through a search warrant this winter as part of their investigation, court papers unsealed on Friday said.Questions have lingered about what prosecutors were looking for in Mr. Trump’s Twitter account ever since it was revealed last month that the government had served the warrant on Twitter in January. In an earlier release of documents, prosecutors disclosed that they had obtained some private messages from Mr. Trump’s account but not how many. The 32 messages, whose content has not been disclosed, were only a small fraction of the larger body of data that Twitter was forced to turn over under the terms of the warrant, the new court papers said. Much of the legal wrangling over the matter focused on the Justice Department’s demand that Twitter, purchased

Twitter competitor Bluesky hits 1 million user milestone, proves it's superior to Threads

(Image credit: Shutterstock) Bluesky Social, one of the rivals to former social media giant Twitter/X, has hit the one million users milestone. Rose Wang, who oversees operations and strategy for the site, made the announcement on Twitter via a screenshot of the moment.Bluesky was created by former Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey, and stealth launched back in October 2022. It capitalized on the decentralized media trend, a far cry from the centralized services of Twitter that Dorsey now regrets creating, by allowing anyone to build an interface to display the data and activity flowing underneath. This also means that your identity and information are easily transferable to any other platform that supports the Authenticated Transfer Protocol, not unlike the so-called fediverse that lets users verify their Threads profile on Mastodon.Speaking of Threads, engagement has seemed to plummet as interest has waned. Threads is another Twitter competitor that was released more recently in July 2023, and which managed to hit over 100 million users in only five days, thanks to feeding off the massive two billion user base of its parent social media app Instagram. While Bluesky hasn’t seen the explosive growth of Threads, due to its invite-only policy controlling expansion, its

Elon Musk X is suing California over content moderation bill – CNBC

Elon Musk, chief executive officer of SpaceX and Tesla and owner of Twitter, at the Viva Technology conference in Paris, France, June 16, 2023.Gonzalo Fuentes | ReutersBillionaire Elon Musk's social media platform quietly waged a lobbying campaign to derail an online content moderation bill in California and is now suing the state, alleging First Amendment violations, according to disclosure reports and people familiar with the effort.Musk took control of X Corp., known at the time as Twitter, in October in a deal worth over $40 billion. In the months preceding Musk's purchase, Twitter lobbyists privately met with state lawmakers, including Democratic Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel, who wrote the original bill, to voice their concerns about the proposed legislation, according to the records and a recent interview with the bill's author."Did they share concerns about this? 100%. But it was a very different tone and tenor than the lawsuit. They certainly had concerns but also shared their views on how to make the legislation more workable," Gabriel said.Gabriel said the company's change in tactics comes down to one reason: Musk's purchase. "The interesting thing for me is what has changed — the acquisition of the company and the new leadership,"

X/Twitter placed ads for major brands next to conspiracy theories about Jewish people …

On September 11, Xitter ran ads for major brands "next to openly antisemitic content, including the hashtag "JewsDid911," reports Media Matters. "In some instances, that hashtag also appeared next to the Musk-promoted 'BanTheADL' hashtag." From Media Matters: In recent weeks, X owner Elon Musk has given fuel to antisemitism on the platform by showing support for the "#BanTheADL."  Yaccarino has attempted to do damage control by claiming that "X opposes antisemitism in all its forms." In a post to the platform, she also wrote, "Antisemitism is evil and X will always work to fight it on our platform. And X is also always open to proactively working together in that fight with all groups." She recently told CNBC that companies are "protected from the risk of being next to" toxic content.  Free speech foe Elon Musk has announced that he intends to sue the Anti-Defamation League. He tweeted, "Since the acquisition, The @ADL has been trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic," and "To clear our platform's name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League … oh the irony!" From The Guardian: Musk recently sued another anti-hate

The far-right commenter, who has previously denied the Holocaust and said his dream wife would be a 16-year-old girl, referred to the account in question as his "friend," but in a way that appeared to offer a wink and a nod to his followers. Before it was banned, an account named @grimaceshake01 began posting on the social media platform. It spent substantial time pushing the #BantheADL campaign and referencing the "Groyper Army," which Mr Fuentes calls his followers. In addition to spewing racist and antisemitic talking points akin to those held by Mr Fuentes, the account also shared and replied to tweets that claimed the account was owned by the reactionary media personality, according to The Daily Beast.Any question of the account’s true owner was put to rest last week when the account hosted a Twitter Spaces event to discuss the campaign to ban the Anti-Defamation League from X/Twitter. The main speaker was clearly Mr Fuentes, and
