X, formerly known as Twitter, may collect your biometric data and job history | KRDO

Brian Fung, CNN (CNN) — X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, said this week it may collect biometric and employment information from its users — expanding the range of personal information that account-holders may be exposing to the site. The disclosures came in an update to the company’s privacy policy, which added two sections related to the new data collection practice. “Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes,” the policy read. In addition, under a new section labeled “job applications,” X said it may collect users’ employment and educational history. The company also said it could collect “employment preferences, skills and abilities, job search activity and engagement, and so on” in order to suggest potential job openings to users, to share that information with prospective third-party employers or to further target users with advertising. For X Premium users, the company will give an option to provide a government ID and a selfie image for verification purposes. The company may extract biometric data from both the government ID and the selfie image for matching purposes, the company told CNN in a statement. “This will additionally helps us

Twitter updates terms of service to allow it to use posts and user data to train AI

Twitter, haphazardly rebranded as X, has updated its terms of service to allow it to train AIs with user-provided data–a vast trove of posts going back more than 15 years–to "operate, improve, and personalize our services," with an eye to making money. Alex Ivanovs points out that Musk's been closing off the site to the rest of the web, that his AI startup xAI is positioned to merge with it, and that "Twitter is no longer a universal experience but a personalized realm defined by AI algorithms." Wasn't Elon the one who said that Microsoft used Twitter's data illegally and that he wanted to bring them to court? It's funny how that works because now you're going to be working for Elon Musk, and he does not plan to pay you, and he certainly does not plan to ask for your permission to use your content this way." Facebook is doing great business again, so he's making it like Facebook, and the constant flow of timely material is valuable due to the AI bubble. There you go. If there's anything the last year's taught us, it's easy to overthink Musk. P.S. The terms also have you waive the right to join class-action lawsuits

Rep. Dean Phillips cites McConnell, Feinstein in Twitter call for term limits – CBS News

Politics By WCCO Staff August 31, 2023 / 10:16 AM / CBS Minnesota Talking Points: Rep. Dean Phillips talks about the possibility of his presidential run Talking Points: Rep. Dean Phillips talks about the possibility of his presidential run 02:38 MINNEAPOLIS -- After another highly visible health scare for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Rep. Dean Phillips is calling for term limits for some public officials -- though Phillips himself admits the push is fairly futile.McConnell, 81, appeared to freeze during an exchange with reporters at an event in his home state of Kentucky on Wednesday. A similar incident happened about a month ago during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol.Phillips' call also referenced Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the 90-year-old Democrat who has given power of attorney to her daughter and was hospitalized after a fall at her home earlier this month. Feinstein also had a lengthy absence from Washington, D.C., earlier this year. For goodness sake, the family, friends, and staff of Senators Feinstein and McConnell are doing them and our country a tremendous disservice. It’s time for term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court, and some basic human decency.— Rep. Dean Phillips 🇺🇸 (@RepDeanPhillips) August 30, 2023

X, Formerly Twitter, Will Accept Political Advertising Again; Promises “Robust Screening”

X, formerly known as Twitter, said it will start accepting political ads (for the first time since 2019) as the rebranded social media platform owned by Elon Musk promised transparency and “robust screening processes.” “Building on our commitment to free expression, we are also going to allow political advertising,” said a blog post today by X Safety called ‘Supporting people’s right to accurate and safe political discourse on X’ that outlined its plans. “Starting in the U.S., we’ll continue to apply specific policies to paid-for promoted political posts. This will include prohibiting the promotion of false or misleading content, including false or misleading information intended to undermine public confidence in an election, while seeking to preserve free and open political discourse. We’ll also provide a global advertising transparency center so that everyone can review political posts being promoted on X, in addition to robust screening processes to ensure only eligible groups and campaigns are able to advertise,” the post read. It noted that “more than half a billion people from around the world gather on X to talk about their interests in real-time, and that includes elections. X enables people to directly engage on important topics with elected representatives, local or national

Huge Crowd of Gamers Boos Elon Musk for Ruining Twitter – Futurism

"Like getting wedgies the anime club."Shouted DownElon Musk most certainly has his fanboys — but it appears that he may have lost the gamers.Musk was, as video from a tournament for the first person hero shooter Valorant shows, booed by a giant crowd of angry esports enthusiasts when he made a surprise appearance on their turf over the weekend. As Insider notes, the owner of the social network formerly known as Twitter and one of his kids were spotted attending the Valorant tournament at Los Angeles' KIA Forum, which seats more than 17,000 people. A livestream of the conference's proceedings cut to the pair sitting in the audience, which apparently irritated the crowd surrounding them so badly that they began loudly booing — a sound that was captured on the stream's audio even after whoever was operating it cut back to the gameplay."Where is that from?" one of the tournament's commentators is heard saying in the stream snippet. "That can't be from in here, surely."Boo YouIt looks and sounds like the boos were indeed coming from inside the event, and people could be heard shouting "bring back Twitter" at the multi-hyphenate billionaire — and, of course, the jeers didn't end on

Valorant fans troll Elon Musk, chant 'Bring back Twitter' at tournament – Polygon

The controversial and outspoken entrepreneur Elon Musk has once again gotten a taste of his own medicine. Fans of Valorant, the competitive first-person shooter, trolled Musk when he attended the Valorant Champions grand finals in Los Angeles on Saturday. People gathered to watch the international esports competition live, but the billionaire accidentally stole the show by becoming the butt of a joke. When a jumbotron showed footage of his face in the crowd, the audience responded by booing him and chanting, “Bring back Twitter.” The moment immediately blew up on various social media platforms like TikTok. In the clips from the match between North America’s Evil Geniuses and the Singapore-based org Paper Rex, the jumbotron shows live video footage of Musk in the crowd, after which it cuts to a replay from a match. The big screen only showed his face for a few seconds, when the crowd interrupted with booing. Movements after the shouting, members of the crowd chanted “Bring back Twitter” in unison. Polygon reached out to a representative from Riot Games for comment, and we’ll update if we hear back. The booing is likely a response to Musk’s purchase of the social media platform formerly known as
