Dinesh D'Souza has Twitter meltdown over Jan. 6 committee debunking his film – SFGATE

FILE-- Conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza exits federal court after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations, in New York, May 20, 2014. MICHAEL APPLETON/NYT California conservative pundit Dinesh D’Souza had a Twitter meltdown on Monday after the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riots released footage of former Attorney General Bill Barr mocking a film D’Souza wrote and directed.  That film — “2000 Mules” — is a documentary that purports to show evidence that the 2020 presidential election was stolen by Democrats (the election was not stolen and "2000 Mules" has debunked repeatedly). In the footage released by the House committee, Barr dismisses the movie’s claims as bogus and laughs before he does so.  "The election was not stolen by fraud,” he said. “And I haven't seen anything since the election that changes my mind on that, including the '2000 Mules' movie."  In response, D’Souza, who was previously convicted of a felony for campaign finance violations, sent out a barrage of tweets attacking Barr. In one of the most unhinged tweets, D'Souza uses an analogy comparing Barr’s defense of the election’s legitimacy to a small-town sheriff who lets their city get robbed. “Bill Barr is the stereotypical small-town sheriff,…

Twitter town square: what Elon Musk could learn from Aristotle – The Conversation

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, recently made an offer to buy the social media network Twitter for $44 billion. In a statement Musk declared Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. His reference to the ‘town square’ immediately recalls two familiar concepts. Firstly, it is a reference to the ancient Greek town square or Agora of 2,500 years ago where issues of the day were debated. It is on this ancient town square where thinkers and speakers, such as the sophists (teachers and intellectuals), had a field day. They weaponised rhetorical strategies to manipulate their audiences with populist and emotional appeals aimed at dividing audiences into opposing camps and tribalised positions. The second concept is the idea of a ‘global village’. Twitter is a singular town square – which seemingly suggests a singular global town. In this way, Musk’s remarks recall the global village. This term was coined in the 1960’s by the celebrity scholar of the time, philosopher and media theorist Marshall McLuhan. McLuhan foresaw that man’s extension of himself through technology would…

Frank Franklin II/AP First came his public apology. Then came the $100,000 fine. And now, Jack Del Rio's Twitter account has been deleted. Del Rio's exit from the social media platform caps a rocky week for the Washington Commanders' defensive coordinator that began with a tweet, followed by comments to reporters, in which he compared the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol to the 2020 racial justice protests. "People's livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down – no problem. And then we have a dust-up at the Capitol, nothing burned down – and we're gonna make that a major deal?" Del Rio told reporters after a Wednesday practice. Del Rio's comments were disavowed by head coach Ron Rivera. In a statement released Friday, Rivera said he had fined Del Rio $100,000 and would donate the sum to the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund. "His comments do not reflect the organization's views and are extremely hurtful to our great community here in the DMV,"…

And, of course, the team did not miss the chance to show him crowd surfing at a Jack Harlow concert.Watch: Chris Okey, Louisville Bats catcher, finds out he's MLB-bound, joining RedsHere's what you should know about the latest high-flying attraction on the Bats:Where is Tenerowicz from?A native Californian, Tenerowicz played collegiate baseball at UC Berkeley. Twitter is making this big change – and I can't understand why – T3

Join our newsletter All the best features, news, tips and great deals to help you live a better life through technology Thank you for signing up to T3. You will receive a verification email shortly. There was a problem. Please refresh the page and try again. I use Twitter all the time. It's essential for work. It's useful for social. It's probably a time drain on my life too, but it puts things in front of me that I'd likely otherwise miss. And, it would seem, I'm about to be using Twitter a lot less from 1 July 2022. Why so? Because that is the date when Twitter is saying goodbye to TweetDeck for Mac. The application – which arranges editable columns of Twitter sourced material – will be dead and done, automatically removed from your applications list. "You can continue accessing TweetDeck on the web," reads the banner that, ironically enough, is currently dangling from the TweetDeck application. I could do that, I suppose, but the nature of work means that I have dozens of web browser tabs open at all times. The chances of me having yet another window open just for Twitter and, crucially, being able to successfully use it…

Photo of British Airways cooked breakfast leaves Twitter users horrified at 'baby vomit' eggs

Have you seen worse?  Email me: laurence.dollimore@mailonline.co.uk  A breakfast on a first class British Airways flight has been branded 'disgusting' by social media users over its 'baby vomit eggs', 'phallic-looking' sausage and 'unidentifiable' food items. Twitter users were left stumped by the 'concerning' meal, after a photo shared on the site appeared to show three roast potatoes, 'blue-ish' scrambled eggs, a long pink sausage and mushrooms. There also appeared to be a burger patty on the plate - although the jury is still out, with some believing it to be stuffing. The photo was shared by consumer expert and TV presenter Jane Hawkes, who claims the meal was served on a BA flight from Abuja in Nigeria. Ms Hawkes told MailOnline that she was sent the picture by a friend who had flown from the African capital to London Heathrow. 'He only shared it as he was so disgusted,' she said, 'He didn't expect it to go viral.' She added that she was still trying to work out what was on the plate herself. One Twitter user agreed, as they quipped: 'Trying to figure out what the hell the items are is a fun game,' while one compared the eggs to 'what my cat brings up after…

Disney bride and groom draw Twitter hate, but not all Disney adults are bad – NBC News

We need to talk about Disney adults. But not for the reasons you might think.  Disney adults — grown-ups who enjoy Disney parks and films without children — are a frequent and predictable target on social media. Most recently, Twitter erupted because a Reddit poster shared that she and her spouse hadn’t provided food for their wedding guests so they could afford to have Mickey and Minnie present for their photos.Obviously not everyone wants to go there to experience these big life cycle events — but as long as they aren’t starving their wedding guests, what harm are Disney adults doing? The outrage over this decision quickly spiraled into hatred for Disney adults more generally. The bride had defended the decision by saying Disney was an “important part” of not only their life “but also our marriage.” Many critics thought this was crazy, and definitely not a good thing.  “Disney adults will cause the downfall of this nation, mark my words,” wrote one disparager.  To be clear: The original poster and her husband were supremely inhospitable to their guests. It was no “Game of Thrones” Red Wedding or Polyphemus eating Odysseus’ men. It was, nonetheless, a serious betrayal of the guest-host relationship.…
