Twitter appears to be returning for some users after experiencing an hourlong outage that affected both its app and website on Thursday.Individuals attempting to use the social media platform were met with a message saying “Tweets aren't loading right now. Try again." According to Downdetector, users began reporting the outage around 8 a.m. EDT. About an hour later, the service began to return. Twitter's own status page offered no information during the outage, showing only the message “All Systems Operational."Internet monitoring group NetBlocks, which tracks attempts to intentionally block internet access, says Twitter was “experiencing major international outages” but it was “not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering.”The global outage came at a tumultuous time for Twitter, which has sued billionaire Elon Musk in an attempt to force him to complete his $44 billion purchase of the company. Twitter has filed suit against Elon Musk to seek to hold the billionaire to his $44 billion deal to buy the company.It's the latest twist in the monthslong takeover saga after Musk said last week he wants to terminate the deal. Musk claimed Twitter violated their agreement by failing to provide the information he requested to verify the number of spam accounts on its platform and failed to proceed with the ordinary course of business by conducting layoffs.His lawyer said they were also considering whether Twitter's declining stock performance in the midst of a broader market downturn may impact the agreement.After the letter from Musk's lawyer became public, Twitter's board chairman, Bret Taylor, said the company planned to take the Tesla and SpaceX CEO to court. It’s just one more sign that he never should have tried to buy the company. The Tesla (ticker: TSLA) CEO announced late last week that he was terminating the merger agreement with Twitter (TWTR), alleging that it was in material breach of their deal as a result of misrepresenting how many of its users are spam accounts. Twitter has made clear that it will take Musk to court to enforce the deal.

Elon Musk’s attempt to walk away from his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter is likely to result in a protracted legal battle between the billionaire and the social media platform.  Musk’s team contended in a filing Friday that Twitter had breached the agreement, which allows him to terminate the purchase.   But Twitter is unlikely to let the Tesla and SpaceX CEO off the hook from what it says is a binding commitment to purchase the company, and it retains the ability to ask a judge to compel Musk to complete the deal.   The company is expected to take the dispute to Delaware Chancery Court, a local court that handles investor disputes, as early as this week.   Chancery judges in Delaware, which is the corporate home for more than half the public companies in the U.S., including Twitter, hear complex business law cases without juries.   Twitter will most likely seek a declaratory judgment in the case, asking the judge to determine whether the company has violated the terms of the sale agreement.   Musk and his legal team in Friday’s filing outlined three ways they believe Twitter violated the contract, two of which concern the number of bot accounts on the platform. …
