(Photo by Denis Charlet / AFP) (Photo credit should read DENIS CHARLET/AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty Images It’s becoming more and more evident that the social media model is broken. Successive scandals continue to underline that social media platforms put shareholder profits and advertiser interests above consumer protection and security. You do this in banking you're threatened with a jail sentence, or at minimum a whopping fine and censure from the regulator. Decentralized social media is in the limelight, but what needs to happen for it to gain the necessary momentum to compete with the size and scale of the centralized social behemoths?  In the shadows of DeFi's meteoric rise, several stories with the common thread of decentralized social media have crept in. On November 8, FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried addressed an audience at the Breakpoint event in Lisbon. He spoke of his belief that there’s vast unrealized potential in decentralized social media. He pointed to the capacity to “supercharge” DeFi by combining a great product with an established massive…

In response to this article, Rowling tweeted, “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman”. Former Twitter India head leaving firm to start an edtech platform | TechCrunch

Manish Maheshwari, the former head of Twitter India who recently moved to San Francisco to work at a different division within the company, is leaving the firm to launch an edtech startup, according to nine people familiar with the matter. Maheshwari and Twitter didn’t respond to a request for comment two weeks ago. Sources requested anonymity as the details are private. Maheshwari has engaged with a handful of investors in recent weeks to raise funds for a new Bangalore-headquartered edtech startup that promises to deliver MBA courses in four months, according to some of the investors to whom he has pitched the new startup. Maheshwari’s Bangalore home is registered as the new startup’s office location, according to filings with the local regulator. The former Twitter India head moved to the U.S. as Senior Director, Revenue Strategy and Operations with focus on ‘New Market Entry’ in August this year. His departure from India came at a time when he as well as Twitter were facing unprecedented heat in the South Asian market from New Delhi. Maheshwari was personally named in police cases in at least two Indian states — Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh — earlier this year over complaints that Twitter…

UFC 269: Conor McGregor & Nate Diaz in Twitter spat after Dustin Poirier's loss to Charles …

Following Dustin Poirier’s loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 269, Nate Diaz was quick to take to Twitter to voice his opinion on the fight. As many remember, Poirier fought Conor McGregor twice in 2021 and won both bouts, which put him next in line to fight Oliveira for the lightweight title. And, as the American failed, his countryman Diaz questioned how McGregor let Diamond beat him twice this past year. Diaz’s tweet read: “How Conor let DP f*** him up hella times he sucks.” Evidently, Diaz is firing shots at both fighters despite being on a two-fight losing streak himself. Many users in the replies to the tweet seem to agree with Diaz, while others even condemned McGregor and Poirier more. One reply read: “@TheNotoriousMMA is the worst thing that happened to lightweight.” ENTER GIVEAWAY Given Poirier’s loss, a fourth fight against McGregor is seemingly far more likely now once the Irishman fully recovers from the injury he sustained in their trilogy bout. Diaz, Poirier and McGregor are each no stranger to some Twitter beef, and shortly after the tweet was published, McGregor clapped back with a reply. The Irishman said: “You lanky string of p*** he got lumped…

Ten tech predictions for 2022: what's next for Twitter, Uber and NFTs | Technology | The Guardian

Twitter might actually get its act togetherTwitter has an unfortunate reputation as the punchbag of social media. It has failed to deliver the huge returns of bigger rivals such as Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram, it hasn’t been the cool new network for more than a decade and even its own most dedicated users love to drag it to oblivion.Investors have been similarly wary of the 300m-strong social network – it has lagged behind rivals in terms of features, revenue per user and for monetisation tools. Lots of people rely on Twitter to make at least part of their income, but tend to monetise it off the network, with no cut for Twitter. That might be starting to change. Twitter is trialling a “super follow” feature for people to support users they particularly like on the site, has bought the newsletter platform Revue and is integrating that with Twitter and has also bought up some other monetisation tools. With the departure of its part-time chief executive and co-founder Jack Dorsey, Twitter might be worth a second look in 2022.NFTs will remain hyped to oblivion, some people will lose their shirtsIf you managed to avoid any mention of NFTs – short for non-fungible…
