Twitter tests option for users to report 'misleading' tweets to crack down on misinformation – KVIA

By Brian Fung, CNN Business After years of accusations that it’s helped spread misinformation, Twitter is finally giving users an easy way to report misleading tweets. But don’t expect anything to happen right away because of it. Twitter users in some countries, including the United States, will now be able to report tweets to the social media platform that contain misinformation, the company announced on Tuesday. The new feature became available Tuesday to small groups of users in the US, South Korea and Australia, Twitter said. The explanation “it’s misleading” will now appear as an option for those users to select when they seek to report a problematic tweet. But the limited test may not lead to any direct action on the tweets flagged by users, according to the company. “We may not take action on and cannot respond to each report in the experiment, but your input will help us identify trends so that we can improve the speed and scale of our broader misinformation work,” Twitter said. The initiative is the latest attempt by a social media platform to stem a wave of digital misinformation. Social media companies have increasingly come under criticism for facilitating the spread of…

Twitter agrees Jennifer Coolidge should play Melania Trump

Jennifer Coolidge says she would be happy with playing former first lady Melania Trump. Getty Images; FilmMagic Jennifer Coolidge is ready for her next role. The “White Lotus” actress said she would be up to playing former first lady Melania Trump. In a new interview with The Guardian, Coolidge revealed her thoughts on playing the former model in a biopic after Twitter noticed many similarities between the two women. “What a compliment. Where do I sign?” Coolidge, 59, quipped. “Between you and I, though, I’m sure Melania would be bummed.” When the “A Cinderella Story” star was asked what other projects she wanted to do, she said, “I’d love to go back to theater and do a serious play. And then the Melania biopic, of course.” A clip of Trump, 51, during a 2018 interview — in which she sported blonde hair — went viral because it was reminiscent of Coolidge’s signature ‘do. Twitter users couldn’t help but notice their similarities. “Melania looks EXACTLY like that one girl in grade school that owned a pool that was heavily chlorinated and she spent so much time swimming in it that her hair turned green and you laughed about her ugly nasty…

Twitter reacts to Bears' Allen Robinson landing at No. 87 on Top 100 Players of 2021 list

NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2021 debuted on Sunday, where wide receiver Allen Robinson was the first Bears player on the list. Robinson checked in at No. 87 on the countdown, which was six spots higher than his No. 93 ranking in 2020. Robinson had 102 catches for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns, which marked his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. His performance is even more impressive given Robinson put up those numbers playing with quarterbacks Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles. According to this list, Robinson was ranked as the 16th-best wide receiver in the NFL, which is ridiculous. Twitter had plenty to say about Robinson’s ranking on the Top 100 list, and it wasn’t good. Bears fans or not, many agreed Robinson’s ranking on this list was far too low. Probably the most underrated reciever in football if this man had a good quarterback not even great throwing him the ball he would be a top 10 reciever. — CJL322 (@CJL3221) August 15, 2021 No. 87 on the #NFLTop100 is far too low for #Bears WR Allen Robinson. He's coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and has had 200 catches in the last two years, yet he's only four…

Padres: Jaws dropped on MLB Twitter when Reiss Knehr stops line drive with bare hand

ATLANTA, GA - JULY 21: Reiss Knehr #73 of the San Diego Padres delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Atlanta Braves during game two of a doubleheader at Truist Park on July 21, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images) Jaws dropped on MLB Twitter when Reiss Knehr stops line drive with bare hand. It’s never day you see a pitcher stop a line drive with his bare hand but that’s exactly what happened on Sunday afternoon when Padres reliever Reiss Knehr saved a run. Bob Nightengale gave a perfect play-by-play of the incident so those of us not watching the game live (shame).“Crazy play,” he wrote. “Padres reliever Reiss Knehr saves a run by sticking out his bare hand on a line drive by infielder Asdrubral Cabrera, which is deflected and caught in the air by shortstop Jake Cronenworth, and manages to stay in the game.”Of course those watching live or seeing the highlight later, had some things to say about the incredible play.BRO REISS KNEHR CHILL BROTHA. We actually need you pretty bad😂— Tanner (@TOside19) August 15, 2021rest in peace to reiss knehr's hand— manny machado propagandist (@purpl3m) August 15, 2021Padres reliever Reiss Knehr…

Kari Lake tweets like Trump: irresponsibly and dangerously. How long until she's banned?

It took a literal insurrection to get Donald Trump kicked off Twitter. What will it take for Kari Lake? She's emulating him in every other respect on social media. Why not that right-wing badge of honor?Twitter banned Trump after the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, “due to the risk of further incitement of violence." Rather than run away from the former president's irresponsible behavior, some right-wing politicians have embraced it.It's not just a point of pride. It's a potential point of profit, a chance to whine erroneously about "censorship" in the next fundraising letter. Twitter hasn't helped matters by applying punishment willy-nilly, with vague explanations for who gets suspended or banned and why.Kari Lake, the former Fox 10 Phoenix news anchor running as a Republican for governor of Arizona, is taking advantage of Twitter's inconsistency with a string of irresponsible tweets that have no business on Twitter or anywhere else. It's the best of both worlds for her. She can tweet Trump-like nonsense to appease her followers.Whether it's telling college students to defy mask mandates on their campuses, her support of the Arizona audit of the 2020 election or even something as silly as taking a sledgehammer to TVs showing CNN and saying, "It's time to…

American Joe Scally, an 18-year-old right back who made just seven appearances while in Major League Soccer, started and shined for Borussia Monchengladbach against defending German champion Bayern Munich. It was his first start in the Bundesliga and he did the business against German internationals Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller, all while technically playing out of position at left back. Scally even contended with the likes of Robert Lewandowski on a couple of occasions while playing the full 90 minutes in an entertaining 1-1 draw.  🇺🇸 Joe Scally (18) v. twitter's-web-redesign-isn't-as-accessible-as-it-should-be,-experts-say

Twitter's web redesign isn't as accessible as it should be, experts say

After teasing its new font in January, Twitter made some major changes to its website and app design this week. But while Twitter framed these updates as making the platform “more accessible,” some accessibility experts say that these changes missed the mark. Most noticeably, tweets now appear in “Chirp,” Twitter’s proprietary typeface, and the display has even more visual contrast between the background and text. Other updates made the interface less cluttered, removing unnecessary divider lines. For people with low vision, high-contrast design can make websites more legible, but the current contrast level is so high that it’s causing strain for some users. Twitter far exceeds the minimum contrast standards set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which provides recommendations for making websites accessible to disabled people. But web accessibility isn’t one-size fits all — while some users may need a high-contrast display, others who suffer from chronic migraines might require a more muted experience. Research has also shown that dyslexic people tend to read faster when presented with lower-contrast text. “When the update hit, I could immediately feel pain in my eyes, and within about half an hour, I was having a tension headache,” said Alex Haagaard, a…
