June 12, 2026
When talking about toxic online content, Twitter trends often feature prominently. If the world is focussing on a controversial topic, there’s a good chance it will trend on Twitter. Trends can be international or local, so they should be as relevant as you want them to be. Still, there’s no built-in method to hide them, and they tend to reflect heated discussions. If you're wondering how to hide trends on Twitter, this article outlines three ways to do it. They specifically cater to the main Twitter website, rather than third-party clients like Tweetdeck. What are Twitter Trends? According to Twitter: Trends are determined by an algorithm and, by default, are tailored for you based on who you follow, your interests, and your location. This algorithm identifies topics that are popular now. Twitter now displays trends in a section titled "What’s happening", alongside other curated news items. Trends offer a good way of discovering breaking stories. But they can also be less useful: nonsensical at best, and downright unpleasant at worst. Trends might even be one way in which social media is making you sad. If you’ve ever found yourself going too deep down into the Twitter rabbit hole, you might want to…

However, the government said it could not accept the appointment of outsiders to statutory posts.Since then, ties between the company and the government have worsened with the police in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh summoning Twitter's India chief Manish Maheshwari for failing to stop the spread of…

Read moreDetailsTwitter has "withheld" about 35 tweets following a legal request from the Indian government, as per information on the Lumen database. Twitter received a legal request from the Indian government on June 21 for action against 37 tweets, a document on Lumen database showed. Given that the tweets have been withheld, the content could not be independently verified. Upon clicking on the blocked URLs listed on the Lumen database, a message saying the tweet has been "withheld in IN in response to a legal demand" is displayed for 35 tweets. Two links displayed the message "This Tweet is unavailable". Lumen database is an independent research project studying cease and desist letters concerning online content, and requests received by Twitter for withholding content are published on its site. When contacted, a Twitter spokesperson said: "As explained in our Country Withheld Policy, it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in response to a valid legal demand or when the content has been found to violate local law(s)." The spokesperson noted that the withholdings are limited to the specific jurisdiction/country where the content is determined to be illegal. The account holder is notified directly -- by sending a message to…
Read moreDetailsAn Indian court on Thursday said Twitter Inc's country head should face no "coercive action" in a case where police summoned him for failing to stop the spread of a video that allegedly incited religious discord, three sources said. Last week, police in northern Uttar Pradesh state sent a written summons to Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari to appear before officials and answer allegations that include inciting "hate and enmity" between Hindu and Muslim communities. Maheshwari, who is based in Bengaluru city in southern Karnataka state, appealed to the court and sought to quash the summons, sources familiar with the matter said. On Thursday, "the judge said no coercive action can be taken against him and he can be examined via video conferencing," one of the sources told Reuters. A second source said the order in effect gives Maheshwari protection from any possible arrest by the police. Twitter declined to comment. The police case had been registered over a video of a few men, apparently Hindu, beating an elderly man believed to be a Muslim and cutting his beard. The police report named Twitter, its local unit and seven others. IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has lashed out at Twitter…

On Thursday, we found out what the players will be wearing as the jerseys for the 2021 Midsummer Classic, which is slated to take place at Coors Field, were revealed.Despite being moved out of Atlanta in April, just two months ago, the jerseys and hats have themes related to the Colorado Rockies. The jerseys feature the letters "COL" for Colorado while the hats will feature each team's primary logo -- and a purple star and mountain in the background. However, the hats will still be navy, which could be because the original 2021 All-Star Game was scheduled to be held in Atlanta. The hats will also have a traditional All-Star Game logo on the side, which is purple. The jerseys are quite different than what we traditionally see. It's a batting practice style jersey with an abbreviation for each team's name and their logo on the right side of the jersey. Also breaking with tradition is the fact that players will be wearing these jerseys on the field. Players usually wear their respective team's jersey during the All-Star Game. The…

The government has blocked the popular social media platform since June 5, not long after Twitter enforced its content policies against President Muhammadu Buhari’s account. This extraordinary series of events showcases Nigeria’s dangerous shift toward digital repression, mirroring a global trend in which governments have restricted social media to maintain political control. The move may also be a harbinger of retaliatory restrictions on platforms around the world, as international tech companies begin to enforce their terms of service more stringently against leading politicians and politicians, in turn, seek to exert pressure on platforms. The Nigerian blocking appears to have been precipitated by Twitter’s content moderation. On June 2, the platform deleted a post from Buhari’s account and suspended the account for 12 hours. Twitter stated that the post, in which Buhari seemed to threaten violence against members of a secessionist movement in southeastern Nigeria, violated the platform’s policy on abusive behavior. (Facebook also deleted a post from Buhari’s account with the same language, reportedly after contacting the president’s office to ask that the post be edited). Days later, leading Nigerian internet…

The team comprises of some of Buhari's top ministers, including Minister of Information Lai Mohammed who accused Twitter of "double standards," when he first announced the suspension. A ban on prosecutionsThe announcement also coincided with a ruling by West African regional bloc ECOWAS barring the Nigerian government from arresting and prosecuting Nigerians and corporate bodies for circumventing the Twitter ban.Nigerian authorities had ordered federal prosecutors to commence legal action against violators of the ban after many Nigerians continued to send tweets using a virtual private network (VPN).Twitter's suspension and the planned government crackdown on users of the social media platform were swiftly challenged at a local court by a human rights body, SERAP.SERAP and a group of journalists and non-governmental organizations also approached the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Nigeria's capital Abuja, describing Twitter's suspension as well as threats…
Read moreDetailsIt's easy to find quoted replies and retweets on Twitter. Here's how. Sarah Tew/CNET The best part about seeing a tweet catch fire is reading snarky responses from people who retweet the tweet and add their own jabs, otherwise known as a quote reply or a quote retweet. Unfortunately, Twitter doesn't offer any single-click solution that will take you straight to a page to see all of the quoted replies. You can tag a bot like Quoted Replies in a reply to the original tweet, which will then generate a link, but that means you have to let everyone know you're lurking around a particular tweet. Not ideal. While there are other ways to get the job done, we found one of the easiest ways to search and find all of the quoted replies and retweets for a particular tweet. Now playing: Watch this: Twitter Blue: What is it? 3:37 How to see quoted replies and retweets on Twitter1. Go to the original tweet, and look at the URL in your browser's address bar. 2.
