SINGAPORE: The Minister for Home Affairs has instructed the POFMA (Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act) Office to issue a targeted correction direction to Twitter, following Mr Jolovan Wham’s non-compliance with a correction order issued to him on Friday (Oct 8), said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday. Under the targeted correction direction, Twitter is required to alert users who have seen Mr Wham’s tweet that it contains false claims about Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam's views on the rule of law. Mr Wham’s tweet on Oct 6 "communicated the falsehood that the Minister for Home Affairs adopts the view that the rule of law does not operate anywhere in the real world, including in Singapore", said MHA. The latest directive comes after MHA said on Friday that it was aware of "falsehoods" circulated online by Mr Wham, which "misrepresented" what Mr Shanmugam had said in Parliament on Oct 4. A correction direction was issued to Mr Wham on Friday, requiring Mr Wham to publish the correction notice on his online platform. Abbot, who works in the university’s Department of Geophysical Sciences, was set to give a lecture on planets and climate hosted by MIT’s earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences department. On Tuesday, Abbot posted about the experience, saying his lecture was canceled because of an “outrage mob on Twitter.” “My crime? JioDown is trending on Twitter today, just a day after the massive Facebook outage that took WhatsApp offline for almost seven hours late on Monday night. At the time of writing there are almost 4,000 reports of issues with Jio connections on the Internet outage tracker DownDetector, and rising quickly. Looking at the data on DownDetector, the issues started getting reported around 9:30am on Wednesday morning, and have started to peak in about an hour.As you can see on DownDetector, there has been a sharp rise in issues reported with Jio, which indicates that there might be a real issue with connectivity, as almost half the reports say there is no connectivity. According to DownDetector's map of reports, the issue seems fairly widespread with reports clustered around Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Indore, and Raipur. On Monday, there was a global outage at Facebook, which caused Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to go down. Formula 1 teams generally use Twitter, so there was a bit of a chuckle about the other platforms. On Tuesday morning the malfunction was solved again, but on Monday there was a worldwide malfunction at Facebook.
