Jack Dorsey, former chief executive officer (CEO) of Twitter (now X), has introduced BitChat, an internet-free messaging social network to rival United States tech billionaire Elon Musk’s X. The app, which is still in its early stages, was revealed by Dorsey in a post on X. According to Dorsey, the platform is a personal project exploring Bluetooth mesh networking, message encryption and decentralised communication. “My weekend project is to learn about Bluetooth mesh networks, relays and store-and-forward models, message encryption models, and a few other things,” he wrote. He further explained that BitChat uses a store-and-forward architecture where messages are relayed from one Bluetooth-enabled device to another until they reach the intended recipient. Recall that in November 2021, Dorsey announced his resignation from X. In October 2022, Musk completed the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, which he later renamed X.

Bands pay tribute prior to final performances from Ozzy Osbourne and reunited Black Sabbath in Birmingham, England Ozzy Osbourne’s all-star farewell concert on Saturday, dubbed Back to the Beginning, featured Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, who paid tribute to Osbourne and the original Black Sabbath at what was billed as their final show in Birmingham, England at Villa Park. Metallica was the penultimate band to perform before the Osbourne/Black Sabbath finale performances. Metallica kicked off their set by covering Black Sabbath’s “Hole in the Sky” from 1975’s Sabotage and they also covered “Johnny Blade” from 1978’s Never Say Die!, as fan footage captured. Following one of the most dominant 10,000m seasons in collegiate history capped off by a national title in June, New Mexico’s Ishmael Kipkurui has signed a professional contract with Nike and will conclude his Lobo career as the NCAA 10K record holder and a three-time First Team All-American.
