(Takuya Inaba/Kyodo News via AP, File)AP A man convicted of murder for killing and dismembering nine people in his apartment near Tokyo was executed Friday, Japan’s Justice Ministry said. Takahiro Shiraishi, known as the “Twitter killer,” was sentenced to death in 2020 for the killings in 2017 of the nine victims, most of whom had posted suicidal thoughts on social media. He was also convicted of sexually abusing female victims. Police arrested him later that year after finding the bodies of eight teenage girls and women as well as one man in cold-storage cases in his apartment. Investigators said Shiraishi approached the victims via Twitter, offering to assist them with their suicidal wishes. He killed the three teenage girls and five women after raping them. He also killed the boyfriend of one of the women to silence him. “The case caused the extremely serious outcomes and dealt a major shockwave and unease to the society,” Justice Minister Keisuke Suzuki told an emergency news conference. He said he signed the execution earlier this week, but did not witness Shiraishi’s hanging. The execution

To Northeastern University professor Albert-László Barabási and students in the Barabási lab, fake news is hundreds of small spheres bubbling up across the walls of a darkened room, in reds, oranges, then blues and pinks, while unintelligible whispers grow louder and morph with the sound of a dripping faucet. “It’s an animation of how (conveyors of fake news) are actually sending their messages out, and how they are effectively infecting the social network behind Twitter with their messaging,” explains Barabási, the Robert Gray Dodge professor of network science and a distinguished university professor of physics at Northeastern. “Art and the language and the medium of art offer us a way to engage with this data in a way that is different from what we normally do.” This month, Barabási and students displayed four pieces as part of an exhibit at Harvard’s CAMLab in Cambridge. The other pieces on display in the exhibit, interestingly, were created by Kim Albrecht, a former student in Barabási’s lab who is now a professor of information design at a university in Germany. 06/11/25 – BOSTON, MA. –

All three made me realize that, oh, okay. Feet are based, actually. Who doesn’t love a good pair of toes in their face? You know, seeing the dogs out on a sunny afternoon? Apparently, ghost maid VTuber Mint Fantôme seems to share my affinity for all things involving heels, soles, and wiggly toes. A viral clip going around Twitter shows Maid Mint getting particularly invested in a pair of footprints in a video game, secretly hoping they’re left by a woman. mint Fantôme, eager for those toes??? The clip, shared on Twitter by VTuber fan @Its_Kiyoomi, shows Mint reading a segment discussing a barefoot individual’s footprints left on a beach. Clipped from a Dredge playthrough in late March, Mint reads a text segment from the game, stating, “whoever left the footprints was barefoot.” This immediately catches Mint’s eye, and she expresses further excitement when the prints are revealed to be “large and wide.” Sadly, Maid Mint’s hopes are dashed when it’s revealed the footprints are likely from a man.
