Zohran Mamdani’s 2020 Twitter meltdowns shows he’s no leader – New York Post

In moments of crisis, leaders should be calm and dignified. They should inspire confidence and foster unity. How did mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani react to the crisis that was 2020? Apparently by having an all out meltdown on social media.  Unearthed tweets show the mayoral candidate — who has never worked for a city or run anything in his life — justifying the burning of Minneapolis, flipping off Columbus statues and calling for defunding the NYPD when chaotic protests were rocking the city. Unearthed tweets from Zohran Mamdani show he indulged in a moral panic during the pandemic. REUTERS Minneapolis protests devolved into fiery riots in the summer of 2020. AP 2020 was a moment of mass psychosis — when white Americans were washing the feet of black Americans, and everyone was frantically posting a black square to their Instagram account to prove they aren’t racist. Mamdani may be smiling wide in his campaign ads, but his past reveals his propensity to twist the knife in moments of tension. On May 29th, Mamdani responded to a post about businesses burning in Minneapolis riots after the murder of George Floyd — by suggesting that the destruction and devastation “has to happen.”

Ex-Twitter CEO Dorsey announces internet-free social network to rival Elon Musk’s X

Jack Dorsey, former chief executive officer (CEO) of Twitter (now X), has introduced BitChat, an internet-free messaging social network to rival United States tech billionaire Elon Musk’s X. The app, which is still in its early stages, was revealed by Dorsey in a post on X. According to Dorsey, the platform is a personal project exploring Bluetooth mesh networking, message encryption and decentralised communication. “My weekend project is to learn about Bluetooth mesh networks, relays and store-and-forward models, message encryption models, and a few other things,” he wrote. He further explained that BitChat uses a store-and-forward architecture where messages are relayed from one Bluetooth-enabled device to another until they reach the intended recipient. Recall that in November 2021, Dorsey announced his resignation from X. In October 2022, Musk completed the $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, which he later renamed X.

Bluesky can really keep up with the news now that it has activity notifications – The Verge

Richard Lawler is a senior editor following news across tech, culture, policy, and entertainment. He joined The Verge in 2021 after several years covering news at Engadget. One thing that has been missing from Bluesky until now was the ability to turn on notifications for specific accounts, but now Activity Notifications are live. If you want to know every time The Verge or ESPN, or one of your friends posts, you can, just by toggling the bell icon on their profile page, along with an option to see notifications for just new posts or with replies included too. It’s the kind of feature I’ve gotten used to on other platforms, especially Twitter, where news breakers have been able to keep their audiences updated from minute to minute, making it easier to follow interesting topics or developing stories. Screenshot: The Verge (Bluesky) That goes double for sports, and Bluesky has called growing its presence in sports discussions “a top priority.” So far, ESPN reporter and Woj heir Shams Charania hasn’t brought his free agency coverage to the platform yet (to go with X, Threads, and the ESPN app), but now that it has push notifications for specific accounts, maybe he will.
