Commentary YouTube is Good for the Soul – The Cornell Daily Sun

The recent five-year anniversary of the COVID-19 shutdown reminded me of the noticeable shift that occurred in our generation's usage of the internet during the pandemic. Using Instagram and TikTok, once a casual pastime between classes or at sleepovers, became our lifeline to each other and held a monopoly on human interaction. This all-consuming overconsumption led to an influx of the most pointless (at best) and horrendous (at worst) media I came across on the daily, content that would seriously make me doubt some folks’ grasp on reality. Luckily, I was not alone in this sentiment. During my quarantine binge-watching era I relished in the Holy Trinity of YouTube content creators whose mission was to bring the internet's darkest, weirdest corners to light in the funniest way possible. Former Vine-ers Drew Gooden, Danny Gonzalez and Kurtis Conner kept me sane by affirming my aggravations with the cyberverse; that knock-off kids movie is stupid, and that family of vloggers should definitely be investigated. I've been finding comfort in their recent uploads, which now reiterate my hopeless frustration with soulless AI products, creepy internet alpha males and everything in between. The world is a scarier place than it was when I was

YouTube TV app mysteriously disappears on Roku for many, but there’s a fix – 9to5Google

If you’ve tried to use YouTube TV on your Roku in the past day only to find the app has disappeared, you’re not alone, and there’s a potential fix available too. Over the past 24 hours a number of Roku owners have flooded Reddit (1, 2, 3), Google (1, 2, 3), and Roku forums over the same issue. The YouTube TV app for Roku had suddenly vanished from their homescreen and it wasn’t available to be restored. The issue has been quite widespread, and the exact cause is unclear. Thankfully, though, there does appear to be an easy fix. A Roku community moderator recommends that users try checking for Roku OS updates if their YouTube TV app disappears. For many, it seems that updating to a newer OS version, for some reason, restores the app. It’s still not clear what has happened here, but the solution seems to imply it’s an issue on Roku’s end, perhaps with the issue lying in the Roku store on outdated OS versions. Have you run into this issue? Let us know in the comments if you were able to resolve it. More on TV: YouTube TV will not lose CBS, Nickelodeon, more as Paramount

Five More Christian YouTube Channels to Strengthen Different Aspects of Your Faith

Earlier this year, I wrote a blog highlighting five Christian YouTubers we had reviewed who could potentially encourage and bolster us in the faith—whether in the areas of evangelism, apologetics or daily life. And while many of our channel reviews might end with positive comments, we intentionally showcase these Christian channels in order to provide you with additional resources for you to study and grow deeper in your relationship with Christ. Since that time, we’ve reviewed another five Christian YouTube channels. Below, you’ll read a brief description of how each channel can help nourish your faith and educate about Christianity. Though each channel might cover content in multiple categories, we’ve identified a primary topic for each. We’d also like to let you know that some of the channels here came from you! So if you have a Christian YouTube channel you think would be worth spotlighting in the future, tell us about it in the comments below, and we’ll add it to our list for consideration. Evangelism SO BE IT! – 258,000 subscribers “For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but “Through Isaac shall

YouTube TV looks to lessen live latency with broadcast delay feature | Digital Trends

Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends If you’ve ever streamed live TV — particularly a sporting event — while also following the same event on social media, you’ll have likely noticed that latency is a thing. That is, that what you’re watching is behind what folks are talking about online. Latency has always been the nemesis of the internet. It causes web pages to load slower. Games to freeze up. And video to lag behind. But a new feature slipped into YouTube TV (and as noted by the YouTube TV folks on Reddit) aims to give you a little control over things. Specifically, it’s meant to help reduce that broadcast delay. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends Basically, it works like this: That dreaded broadcast delay is built in by default, allowing the video stream to build up — or buffer — before it’s shown to you on the screen so that you’re fed a continuous stream without pausing or skipping. The trade-off is that you’re just a little further away from “live.” Now, there’s a toggle that allows you to make the buffer smaller, which in turn lessens the amount of time between true “live” and what’s shown on your screen.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Sets YouTube Views Record – Variety

YouTube announced that the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI reached the “extraordinary milestone” of generating more than 93 million views in the initial 24-hour period on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel — shattering the previous record for a non-music video debut on the platform. Rockstar Games released GTA VI’s first trailer on Monday, Dec. 4, after it first leaked online. The much-hyped and hotly anticipated title is slated to be released sometime in 2025, more than a decade after GTA V came out. The first GTA VI trailer beat the previous viewership record-holder for a non-music video on YouTube, which was set by Mr. Beast’s “Every Country On Earth Fights for $250,000,” posted in Aug. 19, 2023, which hit 59.4 million views in 24 hours. Within the first 72 hours, the GTA VI trailer had racked up more than 120 million views. Since the trailer debut, YouTube creators and gaming community have generated over 250 million views of Grand Theft Auto VI content, according to the video platform. Grand Theft Auto VI stars Lucia, the franchise’s first female protagonist, and takes place in the Miami-inspired Vice City (which was the setting for 2002’s Grand Theft Auto entry). Lucia
