Watch the first Halo episode for free on YouTube – The Verge

The live-action Halo show on Paramount Plus is already onto its second episode this week, but the first one is now available for free on YouTube. As long as you’re in the US, you can access the first episode of Halo on YouTube. The Halo show is nothing like the games, and Verge video games reporter Ash Parrish, a self-confessed Halo lore hobbyist, says it “offers a far more compelling look at the Master Chief than anything the games have done so far.” Halo stars Pablo Schreiber of American Gods as Master Chief, Natascha McElhone of Californication as Dr. Halsey, and Jen Taylor, the voice actress for Cortana in the Halo games, as Master Chief’s AI assistant. The show has already been renewed for a second season, and debuted on Paramount Plus on March 24th. This isn’t the first time streaming services have tried to entice people into subscriptions with free episodes on YouTube. The pilot episode of the Star Trek: Picard series appeared on YouTube a couple of years ago, and Tuca & Bertie’s first episode of season two is also on YouTube free of charge. If you’re interested in checking out the first episode of the Halo show,…

YouTube added 1,500 free movies, but good luck finding them – Mashable

This is much more annoying than it needed to be. YouTube has added a bunch of films you'll probably never see. Credit: Rafael Henrique / SOPA Images / LightRocket via Getty Images YouTube recently added a bunch more movies and TV shows for its U.S. users to stream for free, provided you're willing to sit through some ads. Unfortunately, actually finding them all isn't easy. While YouTube has offered free, ad-supported movies before, this is the first time it has branched out to TV shows. Announced last week, YouTube's updated catalogue of free content now includes over 1,500 movies and 100 television shows, such as 10 Things I Hate About You, The Sandlot, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Legally Blonde, two seasons of Kitchen Nightmares, and a decent number of more obscure titles such as 1970's Western The Return of a Man Called Horse. Not all of the recently added films are technically new to YouTube, depending on your definition of the term. For example, Legally Blonde was previously free to stream with ads in 2018, though it later left the platform and is just returning now. Still, YouTube has some decent options if you're looking to save some cash on a…

YouTube experimenting with timed reactions on some videos – The Indian Express

By: Tech Desk | New Delhi | March 30, 2022 11:31:55 am With this new feature in testing, YouTube is inching further into Instagram's territory. (Image credit: YouTube) YouTube is experimenting with a timed reactions feature that will allow users to share a reaction—a smiley or confetti emoji etc.—at an exact moment in the video they are viewing. In a blog post, the company said that it is experimenting with the new feature after receiving positive feedback about another similar beta feature: timed comments. When a user watches a video that is part of the experiment, they can react and see crowd reactions by opening the video’s comment section and going into the reaction panel. The test will also show viewers what moments other viewers are reacting to but in an anonymised fashion. YouTube is testing multiple sets of reactions and will proceed to add or remove reactions based on how the experiment goes. In April 2021, YouTube had begun testing a feature allowing users to make and view comments timed to a specific moment in the video they are watching to “help provide more context but also to show where the best conversation is happening in the video.” In…

YouTube Needs a Copyright Specialist To Handle 'High-Risk' Takedowns – TorrentFreak

Home > Anti-Piracy > DMCA > In the first six months of 2021, YouTube processed four million automated Content ID claims every day but sometimes the involvement of a human being is the only way to tackle copyright disputes. To this end, YouTube is now seeking a Copyright Operations Specialist who will be required to deal with 'escalated' takedown requests, including those from 'sensitive entities'. Those wanting to learn how many DMCA notices have been sent to Google over the past few years need look no further than the copyright section of its vast and constantly updated Transparency Report. This colossal database contains information on more than five billion DMCA takedown requests, including who sent them, when, and which platforms were targeted. When coupled with the Lumen Database there are ample opportunities to research the copyright takedown landscape but there is an important omission. At no point has Google ever published the detailed takedown requests it receives for YouTube. The platform did provide some overall data late last year, revealing that the vast majority of infringements (722 million in the first six months of 2021) were handled via the automated fingerprinting system, Content ID. Dealing with most claims this way…
