Ludhiana: The English question paper of the ongoing Punjab State Education Board (PSEB) mid-term examination of Class X was allegedly leaked on a YouTube channel on Monday. Such a thing has allegedly happened earlier too ever since the exams started on September 13. But no action has been taken so far by the department. At 8am on Monday, the English question paper of Class X was allegedly available on a YouTube channel ‘Education Hub’ which uploaded question papers scheduled for September 20, exactly two hours before the exam. The same question paper was provided to students later. The students had to appear in the exam at 10am for the morning shift and 12pm for the afternoon shift. Later, students also claimed that the question paper was out of syllabus. Anti-cheating teachers’ front also called up the authorities to inform about the same, but no one was available. Front president Sukhdarshan Singh said, “I called up the superintendent to inform about the same, however, no one picked up the call. Earlier, I had filed a written complaint with the chief minister, chief secretary (education), and district education officer (DEO), but no action has been taken so far.” “How can question papers…

A man watching an online video. (Photo: iStock) SINGAPORE: Any story about terrorism usually begins with a chapter on radicalisation – on how individuals stumbled upon something – a video, a picture, even a made-up story – that reshapes their worldview. Here in Singapore, with the explosion of the Internet and proliferation of smartphones, the means of radicalisation have become diffused and more challenging to detect. Fourteen of the 16 individuals issued terrorism-related orders over the past two years had been self-radicalised online, according to a recent report by the Internal Security Department. Online platforms, including social media, communications and games, have been identified as key vectors for self-radicalisation and domestic terrorism threats in Singapore, providing spaces for recruitment and propaganda. This is worrying when about 4.96 million people in Singapore use social media - around 85 per cent of the total population. When Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong recently emphasised the continuing threat of radicalisation in his commentary last weekend, his call for vigilance should echo strongly in the online…

Ben Elton, 54, was in agony with a ruptured tendon in his only leg. 1Amputee Ben Elton had to resort to YouTube medical advice after failing to get a GP appointmentCredit: MEN Media But the Gulf War veteran, who served for 23 years, was told he would get only an online appointment — and was left waiting for help for nearly two months in agony. He tried to see a GP on May 6 but had to wait until May 30 for a call from the doctor, who made him an online appointment with a physio. He finally got a physiotherapist call on June 21 but was told to find exercises on an NHS website. Mr Elton, a former Regimental Sergeant Major, from Hull, said: “No appointments, no face to face, then asking us to research our symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. “Enough is enough. Most of the physio I’ve been doing has been as a result of me doing my own research on YouTube.” It comes after a poll revealed half of GPs do not expect to offer face-to-face…

Yout said that the RIAA’s earlier efforts to have its homepage delisted by Google, on the basis that Yout circumvented YouTube’s ‘rolling cipher’ technology, were wrongful and damaging to its business. Yout asked the court to declare its service legal on the basis that, contrary to the RIAA’s allegations, its software platform is not designed to “descramble, decrypt, avoid, bypass, remove, deactivate, or impair” YouTube’s so-called ‘rolling cipher technology’. Over time the case became increasingly complex, with the RIAA seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed, Yout fighting back, and the RIAA countering. As a result, last month the presiding judge took the decision to dismiss the case without prejudice after both Yout and the RIAA brought up additional facts about how YouTube works. This gave Yout the opportunity to go back to the drawing board to file its second amended complaint. it has now done just that. Second Amended Complaint Yout’s new filing still seeks declaratory relief relating to 17 U.S.C. § 1201 – the anti-circumvention provisions of the DMCA. It…

Amidst this turmoil, however, YouTube stands above the fray as a seemingly immovable giant. The company’s revenue increased by 84% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2021, driven in large part by a rebound in online advertising. YouTube’s advertising success can be credited to its automated auctions, which are proving to be extremely effective at selling ad space. According to a recent article from The Information, this effectiveness is due to YouTube underpricing publishers that sell spots directly on the platform. “One digital media executive told The Information that his firm is now selling as little as 10% to 15 of its YouTube ad space directly, down from as much as 40% three years ago. That’s because YouTube charges as little as a quarter what the publishers charge for spots they sell on their YouTube programs, the executive said.” By undercutting those publishers that sell directly on their own content, YouTube is seeing outsized benefit from its growth. So what are publishers to do about it? If…
