BTS ” Dynamite ” smashes YouTube's 24-hour record with over 100 million views

When K-pop stans aren’t using their powers of massive online coordination to troll the Trump campaign or flood police hashtags in support of Black Lives Matter, they devote that energy to, well, stanning their favorite K-pop acts. BTS ‘fandom, known as Armys, sent their beloved seven-piece straight to the top of YouTube trending on Friday when the Korean idol group dropped the video for “Dynamite,” their first ever single sung entirely in English. The rainbow-pastel daydream visuals racked up an official count of over 101 million views in the first 24 hours the video was live, YouTube confirmed to Variety on Sunday. The video smashed the previous 24-hour record holder, BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That.” The K-pop girl group set that milestone all the way back in * checks notes * June 2020, with 86.3 million views in 24 hours – but “Dynamite” had beaten that by 9 p.m. ET. We have 4 hours left and 15.3 MILLION views to achieve our goal of 100 million views on YouTube in the first day. WE CAN DO IT ARMY 💜💪 – The genre is BTS ✰ ⁷ (@BTSBAGS) August 22, 2020 “How You Like That” also set a new record upon its release for the shortest time to 100 million views, at 32 hours – meaning “Dynamite” and its 24 hours of power set a new new record. YouTube made the 24-hour stats harder for record companies to game by excising paid promotional views from the count in September last year. (The existing record holder was also a BTS song, Halsey collaboration “Boy With Luv.”) But artists with massive online followings, from K-pop acts to Taylor Swift, don’t necessarily need labels juicing the numbers when the fans’ streaming game is this focused. Of the top 10 most-viewed-in-24-hours videos on YouTube, five…

Google warns free services like Gmail and YouTube are now 'at risk' for millions

Express. Home of the Daily and Sunday Express. GOOGLE has warned its free services such as YouTube and Google Search are "at risk" for millions of people. Google warns free services are 'at risk' for millions of users (Image: GETTY)Google has today warned that a proposed law change could lead to a "dramatically worse" Google Search and YouTube experience that puts its free services "at risk". Those that would be affected are millions of Google and YouTube users in Australia, and the stark warning comes in response to plans down under to make digital giants pay for news content. Next week public consultation will begin on draft laws that would make Google and Facebook pay for news content that appears in their news feeds and search results. But in an 'open letter to Australians' Google has said this could not only lead to user data being handed to "big news businesses" but also put free services at risk. The search engine giant said: "A proposed law, the News Media Bargaining Code, would force us to provide you with a dramatically worse Google Search and YouTube, could lead to your data being handed over to big news businesses, and would put the free services you use at risk in Australia."The letter, written by Australia and New Zealand MD Mel Silva, added: "We deeply believe in the importance of news to society. We partner closely with Australian news media businesses — we already pay them millions of dollars and send them billions of free clicks every year. We’ve offered to pay more to license content. But rather than encouraging these types of partnerships, the law is set up to give big media companies special treatment and to encourage them to make enormous and unreasonable demands that would put our free services at risk."This law…

Ed Sullivan Show YouTube channel celebrates Elvis

Three month worldwide streaming specials kick off in August On August 16th, The Ed Sullivan Show’s official YouTube channel begins a tribute to one of rock ‘n’ roll music’s most iconic talents with a special rollout of performances that spanned three appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. That Elvis Presley became the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll is pop culture legend, and, at the dawn of the modern television boom, America’s most popular variety program catapulted him to the throne when 60 million viewers — more than two-thirds of all TV viewers at the time — tuned in to watch his debut on the program. “Appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show meant everything to Elvis,” said his lifelong friend, associate, and colleague Jerry Schilling during an exclusive interview recently with Andrew Solt on August 6, 2020. “At the end of his third appearance when Ed Sullivan goes over to Elvis and says, ‘I wanted to say to Elvis Presley and the country that this is a real decent, fine boy. We have never had a pleasanter experience on our show with a big name than we had with you; you’re thoroughly alright. Let’s have a tremendous hand for a very nice person.’ When you look into Elvis’s eyes at that moment, you knew he felt accepted and sincerely proud. Ed had given him that endorsement.” Nearly 50 years after The Ed Sullivan Show wrapped its final episode and charmed TV viewers for the final time on Sunday night June 6, 1971, it officially joined the streaming universe to live on forever on June 12 thanks to the deal between UMe and SOFA Entertainment Inc. to globally curate The Ed Sullivan Show, encompassing the influential television program’s historic 23-year primetime run on CBS and marking the first time performances and guest…

YouTube star Jake Paul breaks his silence on FBI raid

August 13, 2020 | 10:24am Jake Paul is firing back. The controversial You Tube star posted a since-deleted video that addressed the FBI federal search warrant on his Calabasas, Calif., home earlier this month. The raid turned up a cache of weapons amid complaints from neighbors who claimed to have heard regular explosions coming from the YouTuber’s mansion. “Just to clarify things and set the record straight, the FBI raid is entirely related to the Arizona looting situation that happened,” he said.
”It’s an investigation. There are rumors about it having to do with so many other things that have nothing to do with me or my character and the s–t that people are making up is absolutely absurd.” FBI units are seen leaving Jake Paul’s home.IXOLA / BACKGRID In June, Paul, 23, was charged for being part of a “riot” in which looters stormed an Arizona mall. He insisted that he was only documenting the looting when he was caught on video. Scottsdale police charged him with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly which are both misdemeanors. “Gimme my charges and let’s put the focus back on George Floyd and Black Lives Matter,” the YouTuber tweeted shortly after the charges were announced. Paul — who has over 20 million YouTube subscribers — seemed to place the blame for the raid on someone in his circle. “That being said, when I become aware of someone around me who is doing malicious things they are immediately cut out of my life. I don’t put up with bulls–t, I don’t surround myself with bad people. If someone does something bad, they will be removed from my life.” The social media star also landed himself in hot water for throwing a raucous party in July despite renewed COVID-19 restrictions. Video footage showed dozens of people without masks…
