YouTube CEO reveals ‘Sunday Ticket’ is bringing down the age of NFL audience

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said the company actually “aged down” the NFL’s audience on its platform. AFP via Getty Images YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said the company actually “aged down” the NFL’s audience on its platform, allowing the company to “actually allow that content now to live alongside all of this other amazing creator-first sports content” on YouTube. Speaking on a podcast with Ankler Media founder & CEO Janice Min from Cannes Lions, Mohan said, “That sort of was the flywheel that we were betting on, that I was betting on, and that we’ve seen happen in Sunday Ticket and gave me conviction then to sort of double down and do this for live game as well. ... It’s back to that point around like the main event, which is the NFL game, and all the fandom, creator-driven fandom, living in sort of like combination.” Mohan added that his son is a 17-year-old “sports nut,” and “everything that he watches is through the lens of his favorite YouTubers and sports creators. And the NFL recognized that.” He said the company’s upcoming stream of Chiefs-Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, will be the “first really in front of the paywall, open aperture

YouTube slows down videos for ad blockers, prepares more 30-second unskippable ads

YouTube continues its war on ad blockers, recently showing a notice that confirms videos are slightly slowed down for ad blocker users, while the platform is preparing for longer ad formats. Earlier this year, YouTube users with an active ad blocker started noticing that videos would load more slowly. The page would be laggy, unresponsive, and overall just not function as intended. YouTube later attributed this to a bug in a popular ad blocker, but something similar has just popped up again. Recently, YouTube users with an ad blocker installed have noticed that videos seem to buffer more than usual. A pop-up was also spotted which apparently links to a YouTube support page, and directly to a portion of the page that warns against ad blockers. On that page, YouTube says: Check whether your browser extensions that block ads are affecting video playback. As another option, try opening YouTube in an incognito window with all extensions disabled and check if the issue continues. This combination of events could easily be read as “YouTube is intentionally slowing down videos for users with an ad blocker,” and that’s certainly possible. But, as the situation in January showed, the problem could easily be

Google will let creators generate videos for YouTube Shorts using the Veo 3 AI model

Late last year, Google introduced the “Dream Screen” feature for YouTube Shorts – this is a play on words on “green screen” and allows content creators to use AI generated images and videos as a background for their videos. The company is building on this capability and will soon integrate its latest Veo 3 model into Shorts. This will allow creators to generate elaborate and fairly polished-looking video clips to use in their shorts with just a text prompt. This was announced by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan while attending the Cannes Lions film festival. The integration is expected to go live later this summer. Here is a demo of what Dream Screen can do right now: Keep in mind that this feature was based on the older Veo 2 model. And now here’s what Veo 3 can do. Note that the AI model generated not just the visuals, but also all the sound effects and even the voices for the characters. Mohan’s presentation at the Cannes Lions festival included some interesting numbers. YouTube Shorts launched in 2021 and is already averaging 200 billion views per day. Per. Day. Mind you, there are only 8 billion people on Earth. Mohan said:

Google’s Veo 3 AI videos will come to YouTube Shorts this summer – Ars Technica

Even in the age of TikTok, YouTube viewership continues to climb. While Google's iconic video streaming platform has traditionally pushed creators to produce longer videos that can accommodate more ads, the site's Shorts format is growing fast. That growth may explode in the coming months, as YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has announced that the Google Veo 3 AI video generator will be integrated with YouTube Shorts later this summer. According to Mohan, YouTube Shorts has seen a rise in popularity even compared to YouTube as a whole. The streaming platform is now the most watched source of video in the world, but Shorts specifically have seen a massive 186 percent increase in viewership over the past year. Mohan says Shorts now average 200 billion daily views. YouTube has already equipped creators with a few AI tools, including Dream Screen, which can produce AI video backgrounds with a text prompt. Veo 3 support will be a significant upgrade, though. At the Cannes festival, Mohan revealed that the streaming site will begin offering integration with Google's leading video model later this summer. "I believe these tools will open new creative lanes for everyone to explore," said Mohan. YouTube heavily promotes Shorts on

YouTube TV giving some subscribers a $10 monthly discount – here’s how to find it

Following its latest price hike early this year, YouTube TV is now showing an option to get a $10 monthly discount, but it’s a bit buried. After being priced at $72.99/month for roughly two years, Google upped the price of YouTube TV to $82.99/month as of January 2025. But that wasn’t without a handful of options to keep the old rate. Some customers were offered a 6-month price lock, while new subscribers were offered a 6-month discount on their rate to go back down to the prior cost. Currently, YouTube TV is offering many of its subscribers a $10 discount, bringing the price back down to $72.99/month, each month for six months. The discount appears to be available to subscribers already on a discounted rate, as well as those currently paying the full amount. The discount can be found as a “gift” under the “Manage Plan” section of the YouTube TV website. The new price takes effect at the start of the next billing period, with Google showing the timing of when the plan goes back to its original price. The option is not appearing in the YouTube TV mobile app. We’re not sure exactly how widely this discount is
