Ektara Collective, an independent and non-funded group, has released its latest film, Hotel Raahgir, on YouTube and Vimeo. The film depicts interactions that take place on a regular day in a canteen near a railway station in a small town. At every table, we meet different sorts of people. Each person here is affected by the world in many ways and is in turn affecting the world around them. As the natural rhythm of the day progresses, the canteen’s occupants discover it’s not such a normal day after all. A member of the group said that making the film was a great learning experience. “The collective weaving together of various stories in order to create a reflection of our times was an enriching [experience] for all of us,” said the member. Ektara Collective seeks to combine creative efforts and imagination and facilitate the collaboration of trained and untrained individuals to make films that are aesthetically located in our realities and experiences. Their first fictional film was the short Chanda ke Joote (2011), which was followed by Jaadui Machchhi (2013) and the feature film Turup (2017). You can watch Hotel Raahgir on Ektara Collective’s YouTube channel.
