JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – With the holidays quickly approaching, a Facebook group is working to help those in need.Pay It Forward Johnstown is seeking volunteers willing to “adopt” individuals or families who need assistance with food and gifts in Johnstown and surrounding areas.”My oldest daughter and I started this group 12 years ago because we knew there was a need in Johnstown,” said said Anna Halapia, group administrator. “By word of mouth, you can come here and find help that you couldn’t find elsewhere.” She said when people request Christmas help, they are added to a list with what they’re looking for.”Our helpers will then come in and say they’ll take a family of four, so we’ll go on the list and look for that family and the person that’s helping will contact them and tell them they’re going to pick up their dinner for them and drop it off,” Halapia said. People receive assistance in the order in which they request help.”Last year we had 109 people seeking help, and we filled 50 of those,” Halapia said.
