Jury seated in New Mexico’s lawsuit against Facebook Opening statements begin Wednesday in a lawsuit alleging Facebook allowed a third party to harvest the personal information of roughly 350,000 New Mexicans. SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico is taking on its third trial this year against Facebook, this time over claims that personal Facebook data belonging to state residents was shared with a third party. Jury selection wrapped up Tuesday at the First Judicial District Court, with opening statements scheduled to begin Wednesday morning. The state’s lawsuit alleges that Meta improperly permitted the collection and sharing of personal user data. “The attorney general is suing Meta again, and he’s got a really good batting average here,” said John Day, KOAT legal expert. “He’s batting a thousand in lawsuits against Meta.” The legal battle follows two previous proceedings against Meta in state court this year. The first trial, held in March, focused on allegations that Meta’s platforms harmed children. “And that was a jury award of over $350 million,” Day said.
