The director behind the brilliant Mr. Somebody saw her latest effort debut on the big screen in London as part of the Doc’n Roll Festival 2022. Her latest film, an existential journey through the power of healing with enigmatic frontman Damo Suzuki, follows the unique talent’s journey as he continues to embark on a “never-ending tour” while also dealing with a cancer diagnosis. The film’s epic scale sees Heighway’s camera dip in and out of Suzuki’s life across five years as his 2o-year odyssey of performing live is interrupted by ill health. With animation of Damo’s lucid, hospital bed dreams of starvation, riding on motorbikes for food, old cartoons, hypnotised brainwashed birds, Heighway pieces together a beautiful portrait. This is augmented by vintage archive footage and access to his carefully preserved treasure trove of memories, made up of old photos, drawings, posters and more. “The documentary is a wonderful story of hope,” says the director. “It’s a personal portrait of the life and times of a nomad, poet and enigmatic singer on an incredible journey.” Filmed in
