Nonprofit Revives Catalog Concept to Rebuild Altadena Homes | KFI AM 640

Drawing inspiration from the early 1900s Sears home kits, they are offering a modern, affordable way to rebuild. On Sunday, the nonprofit held a design showcase at the Sierra Madre Woman’s Clubhouse, attracting hundreds of displaced property owners eager to explore architectural designs and meet the foundation’s founders, Alex Athenson and Cynthia Sigler. The foundation aims to streamline the rebuilding process for homes lost in the devastating Eaton Fire, which destroyed over 9,000 structures and caused up to $10 billion in damages. By offering pre-approved home designs, the foundation hopes to save homeowners time and money on construction, permitting, and design fees. According to Pasadena Star-News, Sigler stated, “Our goal is to have the first 10 designs preapproved by the end of July.” The foundation is working with San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity to develop three catalog home designs, each featuring three bedrooms and two baths.
