Prosecutors Say Columbus Sex Offender Posed As Teen On Snapchat In Alleged Rape Case

Authorities in Franklin County have charged a 36-year-old registered sex offender after a 16-year-old girl reported she was sexually assaulted in Madison Township on March 13. Prosecutors on Friday filed one count of rape and one count of grooming in Franklin County Municipal Court against Malcolm Hunter of Columbus. His bond was set at $500,000, and records show he was booked into the county jail, where he remains in custody pending further court action. According to WBNS, a probable-cause affidavit states that Hunter and the teen began talking on Snapchat and that Hunter admitted he lied about his age, telling her he was 17. The teen told investigators that their first sexual encounter took place on her 16th birthday, according to the affidavit. The document also states that Hunter told investigators his intention was to engage in sexual activity with the juvenile.
