Snapchat blackmail, puppy fraud, illegal fires and more in Summit County sheriff’s log

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office recently investigated a puppy-related scam, arrested a man after his motor vehicle appointment and helped off-roaders after their vehicle got stuck in the backcountry. The following incidents occurred between Monday, July 6, and Sunday, July 12. Deputies issued citations to two people who others reported for welding in their driveways without the exemptions needed to do so during Stage 2 fire restrictions. One incident was in Dillon and the other in Summit Cove. On July 7, a man in unincorporated Breckenridge reported that someone he did not personally know blackmailed him with nude photos he sent them on Snapchat. The person threatened to share the man’s photos if he did not pay the person money. A deputy called the person, who the man had thought was a woman, and spoke to a man who did not speak English and quickly ended the call. The man did not lose any money and did not want to participate in further investigation. Deputies did not identify any suspects, and they advised the man to block all accounts associated with the incident.
