Because they’ve seen firsthand how the entertainment industry can erase the identities of marginalised groups, people like TikTok creator Dylan Mulvaney have a greater desire to make a positive impact on the world. For Mulvaney, a transgender performer and comedian, the pandemic of 2020 meant that they could no longer perform on Broadway and so began a career on TikTok as an alternative to their usual stage work. On March 12, This Year, Mulvaney’s Tik Toks Went Viral. She began posting her “100 Days of Girlhood” series, a video diary documenting her transition from a boy to a woman on March 12 of this year.
