James Durbin/Reporter-Telegram A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper based in Laredo, arrested earlier this year in a federal child enticement case, has pleaded guilty, according to court records filed in the Southern District of Texas. Christian Estrada, 39, entered a guilty plea April 8 to one count of coercion and enticement of a minor. Under a plea agreement, federal prosecutors agreed to recommend a 121-month prison sentence — just over 10 years. Article continues below this ad He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison. U.S. District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo set sentencing for July 14, and a presentence investigation report is due May 13. Estrada remains in federal custody. As part of the plea agreement, Estrada waived his right to appeal his conviction and sentence, except on limited grounds, including claims of ineffective assistance of counsel. A DPS spokesperson told the Laredo Morning Times in March that Estrada was immediately suspended Jan. 8 after he was taken into custody in Webb County.
