(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Restrictions on social media use by teenagers should apply across all social media and not just Facebook and Instagram, deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching said today. She said the government hoped that restrictions on Facebook and Instagram users under the age of 18, including a 2-hour limit on daily usage, and restricted access between midnight and 6am, will be extended across the world as soon as possible, Bernama reported. She said the safety features should not be limited to users in the US alone, as young people in other countries also face the risk of internet addiction. Following a US legal settlement, Facebook and Instagram will restrict access to young people under the age of 18 and discontinue features such as “infinite scroll” and “auto-feed”, while Meta has also pledged to hide the number of “likes” for underage users.
