A 26-year-old man pleaded guilty on June 3 in Prince George Provincial Court to sexual interference. Austin Riley Zwiers appeared by video from Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre and maintained a not guilty plea to assault, despite admitting to several arguments that turned violent. A publication ban protects her identity. Court heard that Zwiers met a girl on Snapchat in June or July 2024. They were involved in an on-again, off-again intimate relationship. The agreed statement of facts described several incidents since December 2024 that turned violent and resulted in bruising to the girl. On March 15, 2025, while in his vehicle, Zwiers raised his hands in a manner that caused the girl to believe he was about to strike her. On May 5, 2025, he punched her approximately eight times in the spine, tailbone, head and legs and ripped hair from her head. Earlier, on March 7, Zwiers punched the girl in the head and body approximately five or six times. Judge Charles Hutchinson ordered a pre-sentence report and a forensic psychiatric assessment, including a risk assessment for sexual violence, and set Sept. 9 as the next court date.
