Tiger Woods’ Son Is In The Spotlight For A Big Win. Jack Nicklaus Says A Tough Road Lies Ahead

Golf is hard enough without having a famous father who set a standard hard to match even by the very best. Tiger Woods is certain to watch that unfold over the next several years. Jack Nicklaus already has seen it. A few hours before Scottie Scheffler set out to win the Memorial for the second straight year, Nicklaus was asked about another big win that week. Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old son of the biggest name in golf, won his first American Junior Golf Association title. It’s a wonder which win — Scheffler or Woods — got more attention on social media. “I think it’s tough on kids,” Nicklaus said, speaking from experience. His oldest son, Jackie, won the prestigious North & South Amateur at Pinehurst and played his college golf at North Carolina. That was nothing compared with his third-oldest son. Long before Gary Nicklaus became the only one of the four golden cubs to earn a PGA Tour card, he made the cover of Sports Illustrated.  » Read More

The Making of Henry Pollock – Yahoo Sports

By James Toney You’d be forgiven for thinking Henry Pollock was born in Bundaberg rather than Banbury, because in many ways he is a prodigious, swashbuckling talent straight from Aussie central casting. Swaggering confidence and an unstinting self-belief beyond his years combine with a natural flair for getting under the skin of his opponents. Advertisement He even has the makings of a very strong mullet and is every bit the viral baller – the sort you love to play for you but hate to play against. Think David Campese, but with muscles. Pollock’s journey from schoolboy rugby to becoming the youngest forward to play for the British & Irish Lions since 1968 may seem meteoric – he’s played barely 40 games at senior level – but it comes as no surprise to him or anyone who knows him. “It’s been mad, the last year’s just come so fast,” he said. “It’s been crazy and I’m just trying to enjoy every moment of it,  » Read More

Amari Avery Has To Borrow A Friend’s Clubs And Still Manages To Make Cut In The U.S. …

ERIN, Wis. (AP) — Amari Avery had to borrow a friend’s clubs for one of the biggest rounds of her life and still found a way to make the cut in the U.S. Women’s Open. That was just part of an eventful weekend that also included an attempted break-in at the place where she was initially staying. “To say it was wild is putting it pretty nice,” Avery quipped after completing her third round Saturday at Erin Hills. Avery’s frantic Friday began at about 2 a.m. when she said her family had to notify the police about a suspicious person at the place in Milwaukee where they were sleeping. “My boyfriend, my mom, and my dad saw the person outside the door, so it was a little bit scary,” Avery said. “We just kind of stayed back away from the front door, and we were just kind of hoping it would solve itself. It was nice that the guy ended up leaving and the police came and made us feel more safe.” They then packed up their things while Avery’s boyfriend,  » Read More

Scottie Scheffler Has Flawless Card And Surges Into Lead At The Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Scottie Scheffler felt he was hitting all the right shots and only had 13 straight pars to show for it Saturday on a tough day at the Memorial. As usual, he had a powerful finishing kick, and the world’s No. 1 player wound up in a familiar spot. Scheffler, six shots behind when he made the turn, had four birdies over the last five holes for a 4-under 68 at Muirfield Village, giving him a one-shot lead when Ben Griffin missed a 3-foot par putt on the final hole. “I don’t know what the scoring average was today, but I was definitely proud of the way I finished and it was really challenging,” Scheffler said. “Through 13 holes, I felt like I was playing really good and I was only even par. Just a hard course.” And it became a hard task for everyone chasing him. Scheffler has won the last eight times when he had the 54-hole lead, including two weeks ago at the PGA Championship. He goes after his third win in his last four starts.  » Read More

From a ‘clubhouse rat’ to Orioles’ interim manager, how Tony Mansolino’s journey has prepared him

The day had been hectic. Four hours prior to first pitch on May 17, Tony Mansolino went from being a third base coach to an interim manager, tasked with the potentially impossible responsibility of turning an underachieving group back into a competitive team. As he walked into his postgame press conference, one of his last duties at the end of a very long day, he stopped abruptly. “Wait, how do I do this?” he asked the Orioles’ public relations employee who was escorting him into the room. The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one. Because even though he’s been in baseball his entire life, this is all new to him. And he’s not afraid to ask for help, even if some think that makes him seem inadequate for the job. “I think anybody who manages in the big leagues for the first time needs help,” he said. “There is a spotlight put on this stuff. I’m not naive to think I can do it all by myself.  » Read More

Abandoned lot filled with trash in The Bronx concerns community

An abandoned lot at Mace and Pearsall avenues is concerning the community due to trash and the crowd that hangs there at night. An abandoned lot at Mace and Pearsall avenues is concerning the community due to the trash and the crowd that hangs out there at night.  “You have rodents, insects, garbage. There's prostitution at night and drug dealers across the street from a day care center. It's not right,” said Bobbie Brooks, a local resident.  News 12 crews found multiple bottles of alcohol, vapes, clothing, a stroller and other food waste among weeds at the lot.  Neighbors are calling for the lot to be cleaned, out of respect for the homeowners and taxpayers in the community.  City records show the MTA owns the lot. News 12 reached out for comment. A spokesperson for the agency said crews are being sent to clean the lot.  » Read More

Ambitious Renovation Plan Moves Ahead at Devon | The East Hampton Star

Despite holdouts, there are comfortable majorities on both the East Hampton Town Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals that favor allowing the 108-year-old Devon Yacht Club, at 300 Abram’s Landing Road in Amagansett, to proceed with its plans to renovate and reconstruct its buildings and amenities. Aside from the Wainscott Commercial Center’s quest to subdivide the 70-acre “sand pit” at the entrance to the town, Devon’s is the largest application in front of the planning board. It has taken over three years to get the club this close to what’s considered a “complete application,” ready for a detailed environmental review and public hearings. “We’re not quite there yet,” said Ed Krug, chairman of the planning board, at its May 21 meeting, “but we’re getting close.” Mr. Krug has called it a “model application” in the context of coastal retreat. “We’re trying to see if we can get through this process sometime this fall, because it’s going to take about a year for the club to arrange for the construction,” said Richard Warren of Inter-Science,  » Read More
