OSCODA – Upon the destruction of the clubhouse at Lakewood Shores Golf Resort, which was consumed by flames in the early morning hours of May 7, ensuing investigations have been carried out by such agencies as the Oscoda Township Fire Department (OTFD) and the Michigan State Police (MSP) Fire Investigation Unit. As reported in last week’s edition of this publication, the OTFD and multiple other departments responded to a structure fire at the resort, which is located at 7751 Cedar Lake Rd. in Oscoda Township. Although the clubhouse was considered a total loss, no first responders or civilians were injured, nor were any other structures impacted. Additional information has since been provided but, as of press time, a cause had yet to be announced. Should more details become available as things continue to develop, updates will be provided in a future edition. As far as what is known at this point, the fire required significant efforts by the OTFD – in not only responding to the large blaze to begin with, but also via subsequent investigations and addressing rekindles,  » Read More

American Vulgarity, from Lenny Bruce to Kanye West – The Free Press

Today we’re bringing you the latest episode of “Breaking History,” the podcast where I go back in time, in order to make sense of the present. The last episode told the story of how North Korea got the nuke. This week, we’re looking at the godfather of American lewdness, Lenny Bruce. Listen to the episode, which features voices from both the past and present, here: And, if you’re a paying subscriber, scroll down to read the companion essay, which begins with the ultimate recent example of lewdness, Kanye West’s new song. If you enjoy Eli’s essay, make sure to follow “Breaking History” on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts—and you’ll never miss an episode. On May 8, Kanye West released his latest single. It’s called “Heil Hitler.” In the music video, men in pelts dance as the troubled performer complains about his custody battles for his children and how no one understands him on Twitter, and literally sings “heil Hitler!” Even in our post-woke 2025,  » Read More

Dodgers risk more clubhouse unrest by cutting another popular World Series winner in shock move

By JACK BEZANTS Published: 14:04 EDT, 18 May 2025 | Updated: 14:31 EDT, 18 May 2025 Days after controversially cutting catcher Austin Barnes, the Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to part with another popular player in Chris Taylor. Taylor, 34, was in the final year of a four-year, $60million deal but is now looking for a new team after eight years in Los Angeles. But while a popular player both on the roster and among the Dodgers fanbase, Taylor was struggling to recapture the form that saw him land his latest contract. He had only managed 35 plate appearances for the World Series champions in 2025. It comes days after Barnes' abrupt exit, which Clayton Kershaw admitted was a move that he didn't completely agree with. 'I think everybody was surprised,' he told LA Times, after Barnes was DFA'd to make room for catching prospect Dalton Rushing. 'It's sad. 'Barnesy's one of my best friends on or off the field...  » Read More

Dodgers’ Chris Taylor Doesn’t Have Locker In Clubhouse

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Chris Taylor does not have a locker in the clubhouse ahead of Sunday’s series finale with the Los Angeles Angels. It was later reported that the Dodgers designated Taylor for assignment. Read more: Dodgers Designate Chris Taylor For Assignment in Shocking Move Taylor’s absence indicates a roster move is coming soon. Dodgers star Tommy Edman is expected to be activated Sunday. With Edman expected to be in Sunday’s lineup, the Dodgers DFA’d Taylor to clear a roster spot. The move comes as a surprise given Taylor’s lengthy tenure with the Dodgers, nine seasons to be exact. This season, Taylor was slashing .200/.200/.257 with two runs batted in and an OPS of .457 across 28 games.  Nevertheless, the Dodgers parted ways with longtime catcher Austin Barnes earlier this week, which made it clear there was no room for sentimentality. Barnes was slashing .214/.233/.286 with two RBIs and an OPS of .518 across 44 plate appearances. The Dodgers could have opted to send Hyeseong Kim back to the minors,  » Read More

Pablo Torre shares two theories why Jordon Hudson shut down CBS question during Bill …

Pablo Torre shared two interesting theories as to why Jordon Hudson shut down CBS’ questions about how she and Bill Belichick met. With a lot of reporting on this situation, and more in depth information about Hudson and Belichick’s relationship, North Carolina has done damage control as of late. Heck since then, Belichick rarely talked about Hudson and recently denied she had anything to do with North Carolina football in an ESPN interview. So why is their meeting so secretive and mysterious?Torre’s two theories could lend some weight. The “leader in the clubhouse,” he puts it, is that Hudson wanted to control the messaging. Perhaps her and Belichick want to do so. “The two theories, the two clubhouse leaders … All I can do is report as exhaustively as I can around this stuff. But there are two clubhouse leading theories. One is the one that I also believe is quite real, is that she has this understanding of exclusivity, where if she says something in one interview,  » Read More

San Jose Woman’s Club celebrating 130th anniversary in style – The Mercury News

When you get to be a certain age, every birthday is cause for a celebration, right? Well, the same holds true for organizations like the San Jose Woman’s Club, which will hold a free community celebration Thursday for its 130th anniversary at its historic downtown clubhouse. As the tale goes, the club was born in December 1894 when nine women — described as “public spirited” in a 1929 newspaper article — gathered at the downtown studio of Fannie Estabrook. San Jose historian April Halberstadt, who has been a member of the club since 1995, says women’s clubs proliferated in the era, when two of the big topics of discussion were women’s suffrage and Prohibition. And there were definitely points of disagreement. “There was a misconception that all women wanted the vote and would hold hands and sing songs. Those women were considered too radical at the time,” said Halberstadt, who served as the club’s president in 2009-11. “How do you get people with divergent ideas together? Where is neutral territory?” An exterior view of the historic clubhouse of the San Jose Woman’s Club is seen on Friday,  » Read More
