The City of Yorkton will be going ahead with the construction of the Deer Park Golf Course Clubhouse.Mayor Mitch Hippsley was pleased to see the project receive the stamp of approval from City Council.“This is long overdue,” Hippsley said. “It is something that is the oldest piece of rec property we have that needs addressing, and this is a real marketing tool for the City of Yorkton. It’s going to be used by many more people than just the golfers or the non-golfers.”With a total cost of 7.6-million dollars however, Mayor Hippsley acknowledged a little bit of concern about the project being overbudget. If it were up to his father, Masanori Murakami wouldn't have played baseball at all -- much less broken new ground by becoming the first Japanese player to reach the Major Leagues. "When I was still young, I already fell in love with baseball," Murakami said in a recent Zoom interview. "I would cut a bamboo stick and find a softball and try to play baseball to some extent." But his father, Kiyoshi, didn't want him to be an athlete. He wanted Murakami to be a doctor. As the young pitcher got older, his father wanted him to quit the sport and devote himself entirely to his studies. But Murakami was gifted, his left arm blessed with too much natural ability, and his love of the game was too deep. He simply couldn't quit, and his mother even helped keep his playing a secret. When Murakami was in his second year of middle school, though, his father found out. He headed to the school to have a conversation with his son's coach. Though we'll never know what was said in that meeting,  » Read More

With a target set at 12 under par, Rory McIlroy needed to play his final two holes in 1 under par to win the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic. Rory, himself, was already at 12 under and the final two holes were a drivable par 4 and a reachable par 5. A third career DDC title (2009, 2015) wasn’t a certainty, but the odds were in McIlroy’s favor as those in front of him had easily handled the finishing pair. Viktor Hovland drove the 17th green and made eagle. He also birdied the 18th. Richard Bland finished birdie-birdie to join the Norwegian in the clubhouse lead. Full-field scores from the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic While they prepped and hoped for a playoff, McIlroy made it possible and made it happen without him. It began with a wild drive to the left at the 359-yard, par-4 17th. After convincing his caddie, Harry Diamond, that he could hack out of the junk and still get up and down for par, McIlroy followed through with his promise.  » Read More
