Here they are: Our top 5 Android and iOS apps of the week!

Every week I try to bring you the best possible apps that are not data leeches or microtransaction hells. In addition to my own finds, I also add the gems unearthed by the NextPit community and shared on our forum. Feel invited to take part! :)From mobile games to productivity apps, here are the five free and paid Android/iOS apps from NextPit this week.DaynoteDaynote is an application that the NextPit Community made me discover on our forum. It's a very customizable diary and emotional self-tracking app. The interface has a pastel look that is surely designed to evoke the feeling of a notebook or journal that you decorate yourself. The app offers a lot of options to expand your notes (photos, images, voice notes etc...) and turn them into diary entries while associating them with a dominant emotion via a emoji system.  » Read More

Clubhouse helps job-seekers find the right match

A couple of months ago, when Bengaluru-based engineer Nandan missed out on the annual hike due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he decided to look for a new job. After multiple unsuccessful applications on job websites, he finally stumbled across a new role in an unlikely place — social audio app Clubhouse. Besides people holding chats on everything from TV shows to politics, some people are also using the platform to connect job seekers with recruiters. Entrepreneurs Harsha M V and Govind Kaushik started a weekly 'room' (or session) called #HiringMondays after hearing many stories of people who had lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic or suffered from major pay cuts. A typical hiring session is usually divided into two parts: first employers come to the stage to introduce their company and job roles, followed by job seekers pitching themselves and the kind of work they’re looking for. The two have organised 10 sessions since March, which are attended by hundreds. “There is a serendipity in connecting those who are looking to hire and someone looking for a job,” says Harsha,  » Read More

India has received the creator accelerator program started by Clubhouse

Clubhouse made its first appearance last year in March. Initially it was an iOS only application but recently this year, the android version has also been released. It is one of those few applications who gained popularity globally in a short spam and after an year, it is estimated to be of billion dollars. To gain more support and attract more creators through which the platform can extend itself, Clubhouse announced a funding program earlier this year. Through this program, they aimed to fund content creators to attract viewers and wouldn’t even charge or cut their share from the money generated by those creators. This was a great opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their talent and utilize it for themselves. After releasing the android version, Clubhouse has earned a great number of users from India as well. In response to such overwhelming outcome, the head of international Clubhouse, Aarthi Ramamurthy announced in the blog that was posted. It said that the app developers admired how Indian creators took part in the audio only chat application.  » Read More

IRL is a new social network taking on Facebook groups

Do people want an app specifically for discovering events and messaging as a group? That’s the bet behind IRL, a young social network that has been quietly growing over the past year and just attracted an eye-popping amount of money to take on Facebook. The two-year-old startup is betting that a post-pandemic world will fuel its mission to help people “do more together,” usually by meeting up in real life — you know, IRL. The idea has attracted the deep pockets of the Japanese tech conglomerate SoftBank, which is the biggest investor in a new $170 million round of funding that values IRL at roughly $1 billion. That’s a remarkable amount of money for an app with roughly 12 million monthly users and no revenue. Even still, IRL is finding early traction primarily with people under the age of 18 in the United States, and the app has already facilitated more than 1 billion messages in barely a year. A handful of universities have now let students enter their school emails to gain access to virtual events and group chats.  » Read More
