Chicago attempted to sign Bregman to a four-year, $115-million deal with opt-out clauses last spring, but he agreed to a contract with the Boston Red Sox, according to Mooney's and Sharma's sources. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer identified Bregman as "a great fit with this core group and a solid long-term investment" when they tried to acquire him last year, and the same thinking still applies, Mooney and Sharma add. Bregman went on to have a solid season in Boston, posting an .821 OPS in 114 games, before opting out of his deal to test free agency again. He was also valuable in the clubhouse and played a key role in helping the Red Sox make their first playoff appearance since 2021. » Read More

Beyond that, the club – which was founded by a group of John’s Island members as “a golf refuge” in the 1970s – is in the early planning stages for further upgrades and expansion that could bring a resort-style swimming pool, lawn games, pickleball and an indoor golf practice facility later in the decade. Pandemic refugees fleeing big cities in search of small, charming towns like Vero Beach with lots of outdoor activities powered a nationwide surge in club memberships, golf rounds played, and capital improvements undertaken to attract new members in a competitive marketplace. Here in Vero, clubs have spent or budgeted more $100 million on improvements in the past five years, adding swimming pools, racquet centers and lawn games, upgrading dining venues, refurbishing golf courses, and spiffing up clubhouses, winning exuberant reviews from new and existing members alike. » Read More

Sasaki returned from the 60-day injured list during the final week of the season, but in a bullpen role that yielded positive results. He allowed just one hit and struck out four in a combined two scoreless innings of work. Sasaki carried that success into the postseason and registered three saves with a 0.84 ERA in nine appearances. Included in that was a heroic three-inning effort against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 of the National League Division Series. During an appearance on MLB Network’s “Hot Stove,” former Dodgers pitcher David Price said that Sasaki being able to bounce back and find success as a reliever should help with his development: “I mean, I would’ve done anything just to be in The Show, pitching in the playoffs. The country has a massive 1.16 billion mobile phone users, according to government data from 2024, and authorities say the app will better protect them from fraud. Late on Monday, New Delhi gave manufacturers 90 days to comply with new rules saying the app "Sanchar Saathi" -- meaning communication partner in Hindi -- must be "pre-installed on all mobile handsets manufactured or imported for use in India". The order, detailed in a press release, also asked phone makers to ensure the app was "readily visible and accessible to the end users at the time of first use or device setup and that its functionalities are not disabled or restricted". The government said the app was designed to allow users to block and track lost or stolen phones. It also lets them identify and disconnect fake mobile subscriptions made in their name, among other functions. Government figures show the app has already helped trace more than 2.6 million phones. » Read More
